'17 LA RB Travis Etienne

Im cool with it if they are. Travis is at LSU this weekend right? I wonder if Lovett wants to pull the trigger they call and say Travis, we need to know something like right now...

Clemson this weekend and LSU next weekend. I'm sure they've told all the RB's it's first come first serve.

Austin Price said Etienne is #1 on RB board right now, even over Barrett. Austin also said that UT is in good shape with Etienne right now but he's not doing anything until NSD and doesn't think UT will wait that long. First RB to commit is the one they take.

I like it. Puts pressure on Barrett to figure out what he wants to do, so our staff can focus on one or the other.

LSU slow play should be considered offensive with those stats. :eek:hmy:

I wouldn't get too crazy about HS stats. I think Bourque had more rushing yards in HS then Etienne does as there are plenty of other guys as well, some of them don't even sign with major colleges. On the opposite side you have someone like J'Cobi Skinner... rushed for 2200 yds this year and 2nd in the state, I don't think he is ranked by any service. Guice wasn't even top 10 in the State as a senior.

Of course, stats can't be completely ignored... Fournette was a 8k rusher. lol

Vols are in good shape but the Vols aren't going to wait that long and the kid isn't doing anything until NSD.

How on earth did this post not get responded to for days? Price makes no damn sense here.

How can you read the last sentence about them taking the first RB to commit and not understand?

How you can read his line about the Vols being in good shape but won't wait until NSD without noticing he says he isn't doing anything until NSD?

It all means he ain't coming. So how the hell does that equal the Vols are in good shape?

On his Clemson visit.

"Sounds like the visit went well, based on everything I've heard from people close to Clemson, but he hasn't tipped his hand much on where the Tigers might stand. He's still scheduled to visit LSU next weekend, as far as we know, so that's obviously going to be the big visit to watch, as long as he follows through on his plan to take it. Tennessee still should get to visit him one more time this week. I do think the Vols are still in that one, but most people seem to think LSU is still the favorite."

I am hearing that LSU may not be a factor here and that it is a Tennessee/Clemson battle. Others are convinced it will be LSU. But, I am told that if he decided Tennessee, we will take him.

In my opinion, Etienne is a take if he wants to be at Tennessee. I do not know how the numbers will work out, but I think you will see us get creative and blue shirt some players to make it work. I think the 2018 class will be built more on quality, not quantity so it may not hurt to count some 2017 guys towards that class.

Isn't that what we said about last years and this year's class? (build on quality not quantity?)

Yes, especially when we had some elite prospects commit to us early on in the cycle to only end up flipping. However, next year we do have a lot of in-state talent that is Vol friendly so I think it may actually be true for once. It will depend a lot on Butch's ability to keep those guys in-state, but we already have a 5* and 4* solidly committed to us that could really launch that class.

The one good thing is Tennessee has become extremely relevant again in college football. I know we have not accomplished as much as we wanted, but our brand is getting out there again. Butch is going into his fifth year at Tennessee and a lot of high school kids are beginning to see Tennessee reappear on the national stage. Under Dooley we were not progressing or even forming early relationships with coaches and recruits. Tennessee is in an upward trend. Now we just need the results to follow.

Jordan retweeted this after committing. Sounds to me like we're done at RB.

Travis Etienne Jr⁶𓅓 @swaggy_t1
PSA: I will be committing Thursday @5...
5:02 PM - 24 Jan 2017

He likes Tennessee but this is odd timing. I stand by if he wants in they are taking him. Clemson obviously seems like a tie with his visit last weekend before LSU.
