'16 TN LB Daniel Bituli (UT commit 7/18/15)

Recruiting ain't an exact science. There are a few highly rated guys that Butch and Staff have brought to campus, and they did not live up to their billing. Then there are guys like Robertson and Sutton who have balled out.

It's up to the player, you either overachieve, or underachieve.

HOW DOES BITULI FIT IN?

A long, rangy linebacker at 6-foot-3, 230-pounds, Bituli has the length to continue to add weight to at least 240 pounds and keep the athleticism he already has. As an outside linebacker for his Nashville Christian team Bituli was versatile; playing the run well on the inside as well as being a wrecking ball when coming off the edge.

He also has very good speed for someone his size and looks like a really good fit for what the Vols' defense has morphed into under John Jancek. Bituli is someone who could play linebacker in either Tennessee's 4-3 base or it's nickel package.

Likely to be a MIKE linebacker, Bituli does have the size to also play strong and could even grow into the same role Curt Maggitt plays for the Vols if he adds some pass-rushing skills to his tools.

The Vols are starting to build a very strong linebacking group and Bituli adds another piece to the puzzle.

SCOUTING REPORT ON BITULI

Now we turn to Southeast Recruiting Analyst Woody Wommack for his take on Bituli:

"I like Bituli. He's a tall guy who's long and lean and really built to play linebacker. I wouldn't be surprised to see him bulk up to close to 240 and still be able to run with guys he's going to have to deal with in coverage. He flies to the ball when teams try to run it and he can change direction really well for a guy that big. When you're try to defend against spread offenses this is the kind of guy you need and he fits that mold.

"I think Tennessee was his first offer and found him early. A lot of schools have came in since, but having the ability to get in and see guys first and identify them continues to pay off. I think it's a big addition, especially this early, and since he's from Nashville hopefully he's a guy they can keep in the fold and not have to worry about him flipping somewhere else."

Lol. I think Auburn should have hired you & D1 to be co-defensive coordinators. You all have this whole football thing figured out.

Instead of being a prick while quoting other's analysis, how about you share your own?

But more than likely you don't know jack...

I can't speak for D1, but I know a colleague of his that has expressed interest in my football opinion many times. Oh btw this colleague is a former Vol and current insider to VQ.

But go ahead and keep talking out your butt...

You forgot to add this.... :neener:

That would have sealed the deal.

Talk about butthurt. That was about the most butthurt response I've seen on here in a long time.

I don't think he meant that comment as an insult. Making yourself look like the butthurt prick with that response though. You clearly do know a good deal about football.

I've already shared my analysis on Daniel Bituli. You're more than welcome to read my earlier post & find out on your own.

And I "most likely don't know jack"? About what? Football? Defense? Linebackers? Identifying talent? Interesting. I'm not going to get in a pissing match on VN about my football knowledge or experience. I will just say you would be strongly incorrect to assume "that I most likely don't know jack" about those topics.

Also, congratulations on having a "VQ insider" occasionally agree with your opinion. That's something you can share with the grand-children one day.

You are entitled to have your opinion. There is a chance Bituli doesn't meet expectations. There is a chance of underperforming & not meeting expectations with every prospect. Recruiting is a guessing game, not an exact science. However, I'm going to side with Butch Jones. You know, the HC for Tennessee that just accepted Bituli's commitment to play on his football team. He is right more often than he is wrong. Several other elite college football programs & defensive coaches offered Bituli as well.

Again, you are entitled to your "analysis" of Bituli. It's just sometimes comical to me to see anonymous message-board posters state their opposition to & disagreement with a HS football player, when multiple people who get paid millions of dollars a year to identify talent & coach players agree that the prospect is worthy enough to play on their football team.

I just got a chuckle out of your post. That's all. You may very well end up being correct in your analysis & prove the experts wrong. Time will tell. Also, if you find out any more insider information from this "VQ insider" please share with the VN board. Some of us "don't know jack" about football & enjoy being taught by the experts. TIA.

Maybe not an insult, but a smarta**.....yes.Still funny though.I dont think ppl are really saying the guy sucks,i think its more or less his level of competition and he plays soft.I do believe that most of the stuff he can fix,or be proven by what he puts on the field. You just gotta trust the coaches, but unfortunately everybody has opinions good and bad doesnt mean there trying to be football gods, its just opinions.

who? what highly rated guys have they brought in that haven't panned out? this is year three.

Yes because God forbid we have opinions on a message board

Opinions on a message board are allowed. I never said anyone's opinion was or wasn't allowed. I just posted my opinion. Which was that I disagreed with his opinion.

I haven't posted on VN near as much the last year or two. What's happening with this place? I merely post a slight joke about a poster's opinion & get the replies of "you don't know jack about football", "you are butthurt", and "we can have opinions on a message board"? Since when did VN become such serious business to people? Haha. Maybe this is why I don't post as often.

It's pretty simple. You can either agree with Daniel Bituli being a solid player & UT commit or you can disagree. And posting your personal opinion of that on VN is fine. But when your opinion differs from the majority, don't be too surprised if someone calls you out on it.

I thought the discussion was about individuals not being good enough to contribute. Everyone you mentioned had the ability, except for maybe Payne.

In my opinion which might be wrong. Most saw the writing on the wall and were already being recruited over before they left

Hendrix, vic, helm, and payne just to name a few

That qualifies as "few". Of those four, Hendrix and Helm "panned out"...just didn't like coaches cussing and yelling...you know?...those things coaches do? :)

Late to the party, but BOOM!!!!

The next Troy Fleming 😏

Coach Z no offense, but you should be focusing on Overton. We need more WRs coach. I appreciate you for staying with the vols and staying true to your VFL status this off-season. Who do you think will commit next?

Lol....trying to figure out why he asked. I'm guessing he just didn't realize that I was on his side in that little tiff. I was referring to the other guys statement as being very butthurt...lol. I dunno, I've got the confusededs now.
