'16 TN LB Daniel Bituli (UT commit 7/18/15)

I know I'm alone in this, but Im not big on Bituli at all.

I love his upside and he has great athletic ability, but he does play weak competition and his film isn't amazing for playing such competition. I Think if he wants in, we should take him. I think he needs a redshirt year though to fully develop his technique.

I have a hard time with the weak competitiob thing. Patrick Willis came from a 1A TN school but so did Chris Donald.... So take that for what it's worth. Although if you play in 1A and want to play in SEC you should just completely dominate out there. No excuses.

When I saw what HS he goes to I was initially skeptical because it's very weak competition. However I trust our staff and Auburns opinion on if a kid can play. He looks really good on film and has physical attributes you can't teach. Only time will tell if he is a Chris Donald feasting on weak completion or a Willis that was beast regardless of weak competition

I'll probably get some flak for this, but I from watching his highlights, Bituli reminds me a lot of Dont'a Hightower when he was in high school (I saw him play 4-5 times). Both were big guys at smaller schools who played RB, but some thought they might end up playing with their hand in the dirt.

Maybe they end up being very different players, but at this level they rind me a lot of each other.

Hard to pass on the number one player in the state BUT I don't see Bituli as a player like Richmond or Malone in the past few years. The position isn't as thin as we were at those positions either; Malone has saw action as a true freshman and Richmond looks to see a lot of snaps early. I think this guy ends up being a good player for Auburn if that is where he chooses but I don't see him as someone you have to get like Richmond was last year. Maybe the staff sees Hart as a similar talent?

I think the main reason he gets passed on is bc he is simply showing more interest in Auburn. I wouldn't get discouraged though. Jones has a way of closing strong with players like this.

According to someone who went with him on the Auburn visit.
The kid thinks Thigpen comes off as overly cocky, from what I was told.

Yeah, I've always just been a lurker coming in for info. Not claiming to be a true insider. Just wanted to share the info I got while having a conversation last night. I'd really like see him in Orange.

So Thig came off as cocky on Bituli's visit to Auburn?

They were probably discussing other coaches on their visit to Auburn. I'm sure recruits share everything with other recruits because no one quite understands the process as another recruit.

I suppose but I'm not sure why Thig, a position coach, would be compared to Muschamp, a DC.

I have some other things I'm going off of other than weak competition. It's not fair to mention why I have my opinion though.

Pretty good motor. Plays high. His initial stance is low, but he pops straight up instead of firing out.

Look a little slow for SEC LB. He does seem rangy.... could be a good edge rusher. Perhaps play the "buck" position for Muschamp..

He's no Austin Smith imo..

FWIW lots of schools saw him more as a future DE than LB. He had no interest in playing DE

I too think he ends up at DE whether he wants to play it or not. I just don't see him being a LB at Auburn, doesn't have the speed you typically see in SEC LB's. His skill set and frame are better suited for that than LB IMO. Kind of a tweener prospect.
