'16 TN F John Fulkerson (UT commit 11/6/15)

The timeline of that success is important. Don't think he came in and recruited at that higher level until after he had the SEC a buzz with a few overachieving teams that excited everyone

His first real recruiting class was top ten...too lazy to see how many signed in the early recruiting period

I spent some time in Texas this summer and fair or not the biggest thing a lot of Texas fans said was Barnes success is centered around being the most talented team and that he rarely out coaches his opponent on game day.

Not the most glaring endorsement of his on court coaching from the fans I spoke with.

Looks like we'll find out how true that is this year. It was my one concern when Barnes was hired.

Who was in that class??

I don't recall the higher rated guys until crews and smith and I thought that was later

Chism Crews and Ramar.

But IIRC some teams had backed off Ramar and we were able to get him. Can't remember if that was the case with Crews also. But both guys were booted before their junior year.

Pearl wasn't consistently battling for top recruits until right before he left. I remember the recruiting board going into his final season and it was unreal. The guys we were targeting were big time targets that we were going to have to beat out big time schools to get.

Recruiting these type of kids can be a challenge because many of them are identified and recruited starting around their freshman year.

Barnes though is an established coach and should see some quicker success you would think. Doesn't mean I think he should pull a top 10 class this year but I do think we will see some better results in the 17 class.

Thanks.

I thought those guys were a year or 2 later

IIRC Ramar was a kid no one else was really going after because no one thought he would qualify. Pretty sure there were some Calipari-esque rumblings when Bruce got him in school.

Chism and Crews were legit gets though.

Pearl had top 10 classes in 2006 (his first Fall class), 2008 and 2010. That's one of the reasons I hoped Barnes - with a strong recruiting rep - could at least open with a top 20 class.

His 1st full class was top 10, so that theory is incorrect.

His Providence and Clemson teams definitely weren't the most talented, so again, that theory is incorrect.

I would advise you to play around with 247's class calculator a little...given the ratings of Bone and Williams, and considering the others we are in on, a top 20-25 class is very possible IMO

And that's great. Let these guys commit, then go after a "project"

You don't think those conversations have been had? Let me ask you this...if in the next month Fulkerson gets offered by Ark, LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Virginia Tech...is he all of a sudden a legitimate recruit and worthy of a Tennessee scholarship?

Well he won 46% of his games in conference at providence and 44% at Clemson.

I wouldn't use that to argue he is a great X/O coach.

Both conferences are better than SEC, no? What is Butch's record in the SEC? Against Top 25? If you only count games against top talent obviously stats are going to digress, what not use his overall success at those schools, such as NCAAT appearances?

Jordan Bruner is a 4* and Top 100 rated player the Vols are in the Top 5 for, his offer just: Tennessee, Clemson, Geoegia, Richmond, Yale, Towsom, Temple and Tulsa....that offer list is nearly identical to Fulkerson's, yet if I'm following correctly Bruner would be a great get, thought of as a stud, and Fulkerson a scrub because of stars and ranking?

Good point

The hypocrisy behind how this board picks and chooses which recruit is worthy and which isnt is hilarious. BTO you aren't innocent either my friend.

First mistake you made was to listen to Texas fans evaluation regarding hoops. They don't even know wtf a basketball is in that part of the country.
