'16 TN CB Dorian Banks (Former UT commit)

Banks recently received an offer from Tennessee and shock is a good word to describe his reaction. "It was so new and it didn't seem real," Banks said. "I didn't know what to say. I'm more comfortable thinking and talking about it. It's cool, but I still have to do my part and put in the same amount of work that I've always done."

"I grew up a big Florida fan," Banks said. "I always looked at the team that was winning. Now that I'm older and starting to mature I can see that there is more to a school than football. All of that is starting to sink in."

"They make you feel welcome and at home," Banks said. "They make you feel like you already a part of their team. I really like coach (Robert) Gillespie and he tells me that he likes what I can do with the ball. He told me that he hopes to see me up at Tennessee more often."

"Everything was more chill since it was during a camp," Banks said. "I got to see what it's like on a regular day. Coach Jake (Mike Bajakian) asked me what position would I rather play and I told him it doesn't matter. As of now they are looking at me on offense, but they still have three more years and I'm versatile enough to do either side of the ball."

"Just go and make a name for myself," Banks said. "Put me and my school and my family on the map. I just want to show everyone what I can do and go at it 110-percent."

“It was exciting to get the offer from Tennessee,” Banks told InsideTennessee.com. “It didn’t really seem real at first, but now I am just really excited about everything. I really didn’t have much to say at the time. I was speechless. I camped with them and then two days later I got an offer. Coach (Robert) Gillespie called me up and told me I had an offer.”

“He is a real honest guy,” Banks said of Gillespie. “He tells you what you need to work on and what you need to do to get better. He wants you to get better as a player and a person.”

“The campus and the facilities are just amazing,” he said. “They are probably the best I have seen. Working out there was a privilege. Everything was so nice. You can really get in some good work with what they have to offer.”

“I camped at both running back and corner, but they said they aren’t sure yet,” he said. “They just want to wait and see where I grow into. It really doesn’t matter to me which one. I just want to go somewhere that I can play and contribute.”

I actually ran into his father last week. I graduated from SCHS (where Banks goes to school) and his dad saw me wearing an SCHS shirt and asked me if I graduated from there. I started to talk with him about his son, SCHS, and UT. He talked about how much his son loved the coaching staff in Knoxville, and he said Dorian would love to stay close to home. I would be shocked if he didn't pick the Vols.

“Their interest in me has stayed consistent, and I can see that they want me and they’re staying on me,” said Banks, who’s expected to be one of the state’s top prospects in the 2016 class. “Every time I come, they show a lot of love, and it’s not like I come and they just act like they don’t know who I am. It just feels the same as it was Day One.

“I feel like it’s a good school to go to. The people are great, coaches are great, facilities are great. It’s just a good place to be.”

“It gave me more interest in them once they offered,” said Banks, who claims to have been timed at 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash at Tennessee’s camp. “To be the first one, it gives them a lot of edge on everybody else.”

“I’m still going to wait it out — a year definitely, maybe two years,” said Banks, who still will be 14 years old at the start of his upcoming sophomore season. “It just depends on how it all goes.”

“I love it,” he said. “The facilities are great, the coaches are great. It’s a great place to be.”

“The coaches make you feel like you’re already a part of them,” he said. “They make you feel like you’re at home. The facilities are unbelievable. You just feel like you’re right at home.”

“Of course,” he said. “To have the best recruiting class in the nation you’ve got to be doing something right. Whenever I’m here on visits you can tell they (assistants) are more about instructing. They actually show you how to do stuff if you’re not doing it right. They coach you up to make you be the best you can be.”

“Somewhere that’s not too far, somewhere I can feel right at home and I can consider them as family.”

“I can tell Coach Jones is doing big things down there. I think his mindset and his coaching style gets the team motivated and makes them work harder,” Banks said.

“I think they’re coming up.”

“I still keep in contact with Coach Gillespie, maybe once a week,” Banks said. “(He says) just keep working hard and stay in touch.”

He said that he is hearing from Ole Miss, Vandy, UK, and NC State recently. He is trying to visit NC State and Vandy soon.

He said that our staff is mostly looking at him to play RB at this point.

“I’m not concerned about wins and losses or anything like that. And I don’t think anyone is,” said Banks, who received a Tennessee offer after a camp this summer. “You can tell coach Jones is going to turn things around here. With all the recruiting success Tennessee is having and with all the right coaches here, you know they’ll be all right. Their future looks bright and everyone who comes here knows it.”

“It just feels like home every time I’m here,” Banks said.

Loves what the Vols have to offer and really likes Cam Sutton's game
