'16 TN CB Dorian Banks (Former UT commit)

247 Sports

“I just felt like it was the right time,” Banks said. “Plus, the (2014 signing) class that they put together, with signing day, I just felt like I needed to be a part of that, so (I decided to) just go ahead and commit.” “It’s just what Coach Jones is doing with the program,” said Banks, who attended four of Tennessee’s home games last season. “He’s turning this thing around. He’s bringing in good recruits, and he’s just a great guy and he makes sure that you’ll become not only a good football player, but also a good person, too. “It’s just a school that I wanted to be a part of.”

When he committed, Banks said, Jones “was excited” to hear the news. “He was just happy to add another brick,” said Banks, who earned an offer from Tennessee in June, just three days after he was timed at 4.47 seconds during one of the Vols’ camps. “I talked to Coach Bajakian and Coach Gillespie, and they said I’m an offensive player. That’s more what I’m going to do,” Banks said. “They haven’t really said (which position). But since they said I’m an offensive guy, I would prefer to play running back.”

Outstanding early pickup. He certainly has elite speed. If he grows more like you would hope/expect your looking at a potentially elite prospect in a few years. Great get for '16.

I know you probably chimed in at one point, but I don't remember. What are the thoughts on Joe Henderson?

He returned a 99 yard KO for a TD back against our Seymour kids. Quick as it gets with good change of direction. This kid projects to be on offense and as a returner, which is how the staff sees him. Initially appears to be at WR, but he has RB ability with the ball in his hands - just has to get bigger. If he ends up on D it is because he wanted to make the conversion or is not good enough to crack the two deep when he gets to the hill. But his mindset is offense currently. He is going to work hard on his D skills while still in HS to make sure. Indifferent student until recently. All of this has woken him up and he has gotten serious about it. If he stays on the current trajectory will be a 4* with potential for 5*. He is that talented. All Vol. He is done. Most of us that follow HS football in Sevier County have known this was coming for awhile and are excited for him, his family, and UT.

I went to Sevier County High School. He should not have any trouble in the classroom. If you can stay awake for about 50% of the class time, you will pass.

:good!:

Tell your teacher friends to slap him awake occasionally. lulz. My wife was a Smoky Bear back in the day (a very long time ago). We are in Seymour now.

Sevier County alum here too, hence my GoBears moniker. I did catch some quality Zs during my tenure there. Watching game film was always a satisfactory reason to cut class altogether. That extra social time has contributed to my successful marketing career.

Told scout that coaches currently plan in using him on the offensive side of the ball. Coach G wants to use him in the same role Devrin is used

Good to hear. He's still very young, but from what I saw it was pretty obvious that was the way to go with him. He projects to have better top end speed than DY and will probably end up several inches taller.

Wants to recruit a strong class for '16 ala Cecil and Vic/TK. He wears the UT commitment label as a badge of honor and is proud to represent his state school. Every time he visited he wanted to commit and said it felt like a family. Loves everything about UT

:hi: thanks
