Staff doesn't seem to be overly concerned about him decommiting nor did they go out of their way to retain him from what we've seen.

I guess just going off talent AK is probably higher overall but maybe for what the staff envision our offense being those other guys fit better.

Indeed

It amazes me how people get way to caught up in 40 times. Your speed in pads is much more important than what you do in shorts. People in here talking about tenths is just silly, what they do on the field against competition is much more important. I don't even know why lineman even run 40 times, the important thing for lineman is how quick their feet are in short burst, very few times is a lineman gong to have to run 40 yards. And their are many more variables in the skill players than his 40 time in shorts. Forty times in pads is much more accurate and meaningful. GO VOLS!!!

I would like to see a 40 time with say a 10 yd split time. For RB's it would give a better idea of how quick they hit the hole and explosiveness. For OL's it would,IMO, give a better idea of how quick they get to the 2nd level..

In high school our starting RB was not the fastest guy, he!! neither of us were (prolly 4.6 range) .. I could beat him in a 40 ten out of ten times but at about ten yards he had a good 2 steps on me. That burst and being at 'his' full speed so quickly was what made him really good..

Wasn't implying they were, it certainly appears they have other options to replace Kendall, JG being chief among them. I was directing my comments more the posters on here who went from thrilled we had our borderline 5 star 2016 QB in the bag to "ehh, the kid was too short and threw funny, we didn't want him anyway".

Wow. That's solid. Who is coaching there now? It was Coach Darden back in my day

The coach is Joby Boydstone. He came out of Georgia and uses the "run and gun" offense. I believe they averaged 92 ppg last season and 91 ppg this season and were one of the highest scoring HS teams in the country each of the last two years.

Scouting report: Last season, Guarantano did not get much help from his teammates, but he was still able to show off his impressive skill set. He is very mobile and has very good straight-line speed. When he's able to stand tall in the pocket, he is very accurate, reads defenses well and when the pocket breaks down, he knows how to escape trouble.

Latest: For a long time, it looked like Ohio State had all of the momentum, and then the momentum switched to Rutgers and then most recently Tennessee. Guarantano will be in Knoxville early next week for a couple days and it would not be surprising if he committed. Ohio State is pushing to get him on campus one more time, but if it is not scheduled before he gets to Knoxville, it could spell trouble for the Buckeyes.

Leaders: Tennessee, Ohio State, Rutgers

Way-too-early prediction: Tennessee

So all you die hard recruit followers, what's the chances we land this kid? I haven't formed an opinion on my own yet because I haven't had time to research or watch any film on him or Kendall. Who do yall honestly think is better? I see 247 has Jarrett Guarantano ranked 73 spots better than Kendall. They currently have Guarantano at #107 overall, and the #6 Pro-Style QB, whereas they have Kendall at #180 overall, and the #8 Pro-Style QB. I also see he's a good two inches taller than Kendall. Does he run a faster 40, or can run a little bit at all?

Kendall is also the #3 QB and #27 overall player on Rivals, while Guarantano is #4 DT QB and #91 overall. So the sites have differing opinions.

Both seem to have strong arms. AK put up big stats last year, while JG's weren't as impressive. JG is a better runner than AK. Although AK has good scrambling ability and can pick up yards, I don't remember seeing him breaking away for too many long runs. So, JG looks to be the faster of the 2. JG is bigger, so that's a plus. Both look to have strong arms. AK has an odd release, but he throws a great ball. From what i've seen, it also looks like JG played much stronger competition than AK. But, I'm only basing that off things i've read online.

It hurt losing AK, but JG seems to be the real deal. Most seem to think he fits our offense better and is likely an upgrade. He is trending our way and is supposed to visit next week I believe. Hopefully he'll commit then.

Biggest aspect to me is scheme fit. And if our scheme does stay realtively the same but adds a few more pro principles then JG is our guy. Much better passer than when Dobbs arrived and is still a great athlete. You take 1 QB here and put the full court press on Hunter Johnson so he can be the future from 2018 or 2019 and beyond.

Thanks for your input. Man that is big difference in Kendalls rankings from 247 to Rivals. I have always preferred 247. They seem to usually do a better job than any other site like theirs.

I usually like 247 better as well. Both are definitely better than Scout or ESPN.
