That's Gr8 news. I have been waiting on this kid to pull the trigger for awhile now. I love how we are getting guys to committ early in the process as it helps sway some of these guys that are on the fence about Tennessee. Butch Jones is brilliant and I we should all be thankful that we have him. GBO!!
'16 class bout to pop... Big time get
I've been a huge fan of his since day 1 of his recruitment. Look at post #4 of this thread.
Boom. So glad we got this kid and especially this early. Really like the Connor Shaw comparison too. Not sure if AK is "that" mobile, but I also think AK is more polished as a thrower.
:salute: Butch Jones
we measured him at 6-1 at the Five Star Challenge but I could see him topping out at 6-2 or even 6-3, he's not short he's just not a 6-4 QB. I like his arm strength better than some others. This was from Josh Helmholdt after his Saturday performance at the Five Star...
While several of the quarterbacks were up and down on Saturday, Kendall
was solid early during the position drills and solid during the
one-on-one session. He did throw an interception on his first one-on-one
rep, but was very clean from that point forward. Kendall does not have
any one asset that jumps off the page, but he also has very few
weaknesses. His mechanics are clean, his footwork is good and he spins
the football well.
And this was me after our Charlotte RCS Camp...
On a very windy day, Kendall's passes were still on target for the most
part and his arm strength showed as the ball cut threw the wind at
times. He gets enough velocity on his intermediate passes so that the
wind won't affect them and he showed good touch on long passes even
though some of them carried too far because of the strong wind at his
back during one-on-ones. He also carries himself with a great deal of
confidence and you sense he's a future leader.
And this was from Woody when Austin worked out at the PSU camp in Georgia...
Fresh off a strong showing at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge
Presented by Under Armour, Kendall elected to workout on Tuesday and
didn't disappoint. He showed the ability to make a variety of throws and drew praise from both
coaching staffs for his arm strength and accuracy.
We've seen him more than anyone I can tell you that, hands down. The reason I invited him as one of the four underclassmen QBs to the 5 star challenge was because of that "it factor" I saw in the kid, we'll see if my instincts are correct or not. So far they have been when it comes to Austin.
"They have been on me since my freshman year and I just had the right feeling with Tennessee," Kendall said. "I wanted to spend the night in Knoxville and I got that chance this weekend with my family. I have a great relationship with coach Jones and the entire staff. I talk to him every week and I just knew it was the right place for me."
"I love coach Jones," Kendall said. "He's a great coach with a lot of energy and he is a family man and I love that. When I committed he hugged my entire family including my grandparents. He's had most of the same staff for a long time and I like that. He told me that he had a dream that I was his quarterback and I thought that was funny."
"They all welcomed me with open arms," Kendall said. "I spent the night with Dillon Bates and some of his roommates. They were all good guys and it was good to relax with the team and get a feel for their chemistry."
"I feel like I can help us in recruiting," Kendall said. "I can help as soon as I get home. I'm going to get on the computer and work the guys that I know on Facebook and Twitter. Coach Jones told me I need to start recruiting and I'm going to do that."
"You are going to have to compete anywhere you go and I look forward to that," Kendall said. "I definitely can throw the ball really well. People say I'm not the fastest, but I can get out of trouble and my athleticism is underrated. I play two sports and I feel like I move well."
I think we said this last summer when we locked up Zach Stewart, Andrew Butcher, and Jaylond Woods so early. At this rate we will have the 2016 class wrapped up by NSD, much less the 2015 class
