'16 NC QB Austin Kendall (former UT commit)

Serious question - when was the last time that we had a top-tier QB locked up a year and a half in advance?

Butch & Co have obviously shown they can recruit... but these guys are rewriting the book of recruiting at Tennessee. It's typical for programs that recruit in-state/regionally to be a year or two out, but this is the first time I can remember Tennessee truly recruiting years ahead.

Surprised he made a choice this early. Thought he would have waited to pick between Tennessee and kentucky, especially with a brother at uk. Wouldn't be shocked if he decommits and thinks again, but either way glad UT him since we didn't.

Are you serious, Clark?

I needed that laugh. Thanks man.

2016 is a long way away. Let's say UT underperform and UK overachieves. Maybe he reopens his recruitment. He might still choose UT, and imo that's a wise choice. It's not surprising he wanted to commit to someone like butch, he's killing it in the recruiting world.

Like I said, I'm glad UT got him, disappointed he decided this early, but certainly not "sour grapes" lol.

CBJ in his 1st year with a 4th string TFR QB beat uk without much trouble. I have no doubt they will do it again this year no matter who is playing QB. Austin will not be flipping to uk as Tennessee will beat uk again in 2014.

Both teams were 1st year coaches with terrible talent, Uk especially. I'm more interested in 2nd and 3rd year impact of recruits.

I threw my opinion out there. I'm not predicting he's flipping. Just pointing out 2016 is a long way away and he has connections to other schools.

You're glad UT got him? Maybe it's just me, but I experience no joy when our rivals get commitments from potential beasts.

Don't flame me for this question because I seriously haven't looked at this guy, heck I'm having difficulty just keeping up with the '15 class, but what makes this guy elite? I mean just going by his offer list it doesn't look like we beat hardly anybody of significance for his services. Is it because it's so early and many schools haven't seen him yet?

Very early. He will be offered by other programs before its over.

One connection is Tennessee- an 800+ win program

The other connection is UK- a career .495 winning %

UK has 10 consensus all-Americans.

UT has 38 all-Americans

UT has 6 National Titles

UK has one

UT has 16 conference titles

UK has 2

I mean, was there ever a choice here, regardless of a sibling?

Biggest thing that tells me he is elite?

UT's staff identified the guy they wanted very early and got him. Taking his commitment this early tells me the staff loves him. That's all I need to know.

I mean how hard would it be for CBJ to allow his bro to walk-on to UT if the family needed that to happen? I think Austin obviously picked the school he liked best.

UT beats uk by 3 TDs in 2014. Book it.

I'm confident in their eye for talent too but we will not win big with a significant number of kids that have slipped through the cracks of the Bamas of the world. JMO.
