I think if our passing game was playing up to its potential we would lock him in easily. Between the ineffective passing game, DBs getting burnt, and DL getting no pass rush at all, there's been a lot of head scratchers this year.
You're thinking short term. Dobbs is developing, and if we still struggle in the passing game coming out of fall camp, I can see Dormady, Jones or the G-Man getting a look, early in the season.I think if our passing game was playing up to its potential we would lock him in easily. I think most thought '16 would be our year. Next year we should be stacked. Only big loss will be in our secondary. We lose a lot in 17 IIRC.
But I still think anything less than 8 this year is disappointing. Missouri and Vandy have the worst offenses in the SEC, UK is meh, and Scar is reeling. Gotta win out after bama to continue the momentum.

Although Dormady is promising, he still lacks that mobility element. He's not lead-footed, but he's not mobile enough to be the kind of dual threat QB this system needs. I think it may be a battle between Jones and the G-Man. Guarantano is probably the most complete QB we will have on the roster, so even though he's a true freshman, I think his talents will tantalize the staff too much to just RS without giving him some serious looks.
Dobbs passing game will have to improve dramatically between now and this time next year, to keep all 3 of those guys from beating him out.
Probably means not a whole lot but Auburn and Georgia will both have coaches at Archer High on Friday. Seems like literally nobody knows where he is going. Doesn't seem like a school would stop by if they weren't getting himTennessee offered 16 4* WR Velus Jones Jr. today. Could be an indicator that Kyle Davis is going to Georgia/Auburn

Meh, VN always looks for some corresponding bad news whenever an unexpected offer is made. That must mean that we have missed on a bigger target. It's usually misguided. Tennessee is pursuing several WR's.

I've been a big Dobbs fan, but you have to admit, before that drive late in the 2nd Qtr, Dobbs was all over the place with his passes. And he's had some games with pitiful numbers. Glad he tightened it up a bit just in time, but he scares me at times this season, and I personally thought he'd be much further along in his progress as a passer.Talking the way you're talking, you would think Dobbs didn't throw for 300 yards last week.

He seemed better in the South Carolina game last year, than in any other game he's played. If he passed like that most games, he'd be a heisman contender and we'd probably be undefeated at this point. Not putting blame on him for the losses. Much of it was poor coaching. But the games we lost, better performance from Dobbs probably makes up the deficit.
Having said that, if his passing doesn't improve considerably by next season, he might get passed up by one of the three.
I attribute the early Georgia struggles to jitters. Remember he's a Georgia kid. He was not offered by Georgia. He was probably pressing at the start to prove Richt and the staff wrong. He's said half his high school goes to Georgia. It's his first start against them. I'm not surprised he struggled at the start. He was trying too hard to start. Once he got that TD to Josh Smith, he settled down and played great.
I'm not worried about Josh the passer. He's made too many great throws for me to question his ABILITY. It's all about CONSISTENCY. And I think we'll see that over the next 6 weeks.
