'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

They released it today because they knew that would hurt them more than any actual sanctions they can hand down.
I don't know about that. Sanctions really crashed USC's party...in a way that can still be felt. I would say that FORMAL charges...not simply an inquiry...is a VERY serious matter. It's like having a little party at the house, and while you're passing around the fat blunts, the cops come knocking on your door. There ain't no way it's gonna turn out good for you.

Furthermore, the timing tells me they saw blatant rules violations and wanted the charges to have a MAXIMUM impact. Blowing up their recruiting class right before NSD would pretty much do just that.

ESPN article:
Ole Miss Rebels charged with multiple rules violations across three sports by NCAA

Most of the violations are for non revenue generators like track and women's basketball. They are hitting them where it hurts by announcing it right when recruits are about to hit the road on the biggest recruiting weekend of the year for the biggest money sport.

The alleged football violations apparently were not under Hugh Freeze, either.

The first Yahoo article I read did mention the Tunsil matter and Robert Nkemdiche. Also alluded to concerns or complaints from a number of other SEC schools since Freeze took over. However, it's probably not the end of the world...but the headline is going to be damaging as a result of the timing.

In a few months they'll get probation and move on, but the damage will have already been done.

Everyone pays for recruits, but you can't step on people's toes the way Freeze has.

I don't see anything suspicious about all these top rated recruiting classes that Freeze has had at a school that was pretty much irrelevant in recruiting for the last 50 years and that until fairly recently waved Rebel flags and had a Plantation owner as a mascot.

I don't know about that. How would you know? Are you used to working in the AD of multiple SEC teams? Then you wouldn't.

Freeze has just made it patently obvious. Even if Nick Saban were the new coach at Ole Miss, they don't have enough facilities, prestige or a winning tradition to pull in the kind of classes they have since Freeze got there. And it's not like Freeze came from a championship program...he came from Ark. St.

What Freeze has done is hide it fairly well...until someone spilled the beans on Tunsil (getting paid)

That was part of what made that program the stench that it is. They just hid Colonel Reb, the flag, but kept the name. Ain't fooling anyone....except the 4-5* recruits who buy their denials of delusion and visit OleMiss' ATM branch.

I know it's been posted here several times, but in regards to the paying, read this: Meet the Bag Man - SBNation.com
It's very interesting and eye opening.

I mean...its got to be obvious to even the most casual observer that they are cheating, right? They have very little tradition, a small and unimpressive stadium, below SEC level facilities, a racist fight song, mascot, and overall history...and yet Freeze comes in and after 50+ years of cellar dwelling, manages to start signing top 5 classes? There is just no way that you can look at all that in it's totality and not come to the conclusion that they are cheating their asses off.
