This is a rebuild year. We didn’t think it would be, but it is what it is. I am not necessarily hating it, but I’m not necessarily loving it either.

Everyone is grateful for the winning culture that Huepel has brought to this program. Huepel has proved himself to be an offensive mastermind and should be given the benefit of any doubt. No one can really argue with his record.

What is mildly frustrating though is that we are very close to being a championship caliber program. We are a good team and have exceeded expectations the last two years, but we haven't reached our full potential yet. A few tweaks and adjustments and we can get there. I think many see we are on the right path and eventually everything will come together. But it also seems we might be settling for good until we can be great in the future.

This has long been my stance… maybe, just maybe, this coaching staff knows more about football than the fans do…. Just a thought, I know that was not the case with the last 3 or 4 HC’s, but Heupel & his guys know what they’re doing!
Yeah, they looked brilliant against that playoff team UF.

The DBs don’t get their head around like we want and they don’t play enough press coverage for our liking. The offense doesn’t throw a lot on first down. They run more WR screens and swing passes than we like. The coaches don’t play Nico like we think they should. Blah blah blah THEY’VE WON 16 OUT OF THEIR PREVIOUS 19 GAMES!

I think it’s time for many of us to accept that’s Josh Heupel isn’t going to do things the way any of us would if we were the coach. His methods are unorthodox, but we’ve won 16 of 19 so why whine about it? It kind of makes us look stupid.

It all kind of reminds me of my dad’s relationship with mamaw’s coleslaw. My dad hates mayonnaise, but he loves mamaw’s coleslaw - which contains a good bit of mayonnaise. Does he refuse to enjoy the coleslaw since he doesn’t like mayonnaise? No. That’d be stupid. Does mamaw take mayonnaise out of the recipe since dad doesn’t like it? Of course not, because she knows he likes the end result. If the end result of our coaching produces wins, why are we complaining about the way they do things? It’s stupid.

Recipe for said slaw? Good slaw is an art. Too much bad slaw out there these days 😜

But he did run better today. I think that after his first run someone must have reminded him that he's a big guy and can run over other big guys.
Yeah there was one play where he lowered his shoulder and nailed the defender to get the first down instead of running out of bounds. I'm not saying he won't improve. He could, he might, but I mean who knows at this point. Hendon Hooker was amazing and it'd be hard for any guy to follow someone like that.

Only so much you can do when the opposition is allowed to hold your D linemen and interfere with your receivers, run pick plays on offense, and then when your on defense the referee punts the ball 50 yards down the field to give their defense extra time to substitute and rest, not to mention calling crap crack back blocks against us among a multitude of other assists the refs gave UF in that one

Yeah, I think it's okay to acknowledge we have areas that need some attention, and be a little frustrated that it hasn't all quite come together the way we thought maybe it would. Heck, it's even think it's ok to think the sky is falling and things are about to fall apart spectacularly. That's the privilege of fans: we can feel how we like. Part of the fun of a sports forum. Myself, I don't think the sky is falling take is very rational at this point given what we have seen in the last couple of years and this season. I would rather be optimistic, which I think is reasonable. I think being a little frustrated is normal and just means we care.

Sounds like somebody has been listening to Josh Pate.

My mother’s coleslaw recipe has no sugar or sweeteners of any kind (she did use a little Durkee’s). You would eat it and like it, or one of her neighbors might chop you up and put bits of you in the crab traps. Coastal estuary people are… different.

I agree that the officiating in that game was as corrupt as it gets. It says a lot about the state of the FBS that those officials were not investigated and charged.

I think Josh is trying to get the most out of the players he has and our game plans on both sides of the ball are his approach to do so. Would love for this team to get 10 wins this year.

Makes the most sense to me too. People can believe it's time to put Nico in, and that's a fine opinion as a fan, and maybe they are right, but I think the coaches will make that call if they think it's going to do what you just said, and give the best chance for success. They can be wrong of course, but so far this staff has seemed to be pretty good at using their people and planning around their opponent's strengths and weaknesses with the pieces they have in my opinion. I guess people will point to the Milton vs. Hendon thing, but they did make that change, and fortunately they were right then. Had it not worked out things could've been worse, but hey, they get paid the big bucks.

There's nothing wrong with talking about the game. Pointing out obvious issues with TN play during the game does not mean we do not enjoy the wins or the obvious progress in the program. Is everybody supposed to come on a chat board and only say good things? Is this the snooze station? I just want to say go vols and I'll hang you and listen to what you guys have to say.

Great post but can you imagine how good we’d be with a sec caliber quarterback? If somebody would’ve told me that milroe would be better than Milton I would’ve laughed you out of the room. Milroe is way better and that’ll be the difference next week
If we just had a top 5ish QB in the SEC that consistently managed the offense and ran effectively 5-7 times a game, we'd be a legit threat to win the conference.

Yes, love the analogy! We’re going to see posts about “A&M sucks” downplaying our win but we beat a good team today. Pivotal win no doubt. Speaking of DBs not turning around, I saw it during two other games before ours today and I’ve definitely seen it during a couple NFL games this year. It still blows my mind but coaches are teaching it and I guess they must be getting good results more often than not. Not my favorite technique but oh well.

I saw the opposite. Ala and Arky both turned around, ND turns around, Auburn and LSU DB's all turn around. Martinez won't be here next year anyway. Even Lally, who while at Vandy and BYU turned around on passes, doesn't do it here. Gotta be Martinez's coaching method, which sux

We could blow out people with ease last year because of the potency of the offense. This year we have a stout defense and have won a few ugly games. It’s not a welcome change because Tennessee over the years have lost games like yesterday by the basketful. We are going to scrap for every win we get. Because it is such a drastic change from last year, everyone has heartburn.

Next year is the rebuild year. All the SR's we're losing. This team is loaded with Seniors and multiple year starters. it has zero business being a rebuild year. Just think if Pruitt hadn't turned down Penix?? Milton is handcuffed this team along with WR injuries.

The method resulted in 13 points allowed yesterday. It fits our system well, apparently.

Some teach it, some don’t. Martinez isn’t the only one.
