The DBs don’t get their head around like we want and they don’t play enough press coverage for our liking. The offense doesn’t throw a lot on first down. They run more WR screens and swing passes than we like. The coaches don’t play Nico like we think they should. Blah blah blah THEY’VE WON 16 OUT OF THEIR PREVIOUS 19 GAMES!

I think it’s time for many of us to accept that’s Josh Heupel isn’t going to do things the way any of us would if we were the coach. His methods are unorthodox, but we’ve won 16 of 19 so why whine about it? It kind of makes us look stupid.

It all kind of reminds me of my dad’s relationship with mamaw’s coleslaw. My dad hates mayonnaise, but he loves mamaw’s coleslaw - which contains a good bit of mayonnaise. Does he refuse to enjoy the coleslaw since he doesn’t like mayonnaise? No. That’d be stupid. Does mamaw take mayonnaise out of the recipe since dad doesn’t like it? Of course not, because she knows he likes the end result. If the end result of our coaching produces wins, why are we complaining about the way they do things? It’s stupid.

The mamaw coleslaw analogy could just be the best one on vn.com this week.

Go Vols!

At least your dad was mature enough to overcome his mayo hatred long enough to enjoy mamaw's coleslaw. There are many who lack that level of maturity.

Yes, love the analogy! We’re going to see posts about “A&M sucks” downplaying our win but we beat a good team today. Pivotal win no doubt. Speaking of DBs not turning around, I saw it during two other games before ours today and I’ve definitely seen it during a couple NFL games this year. It still blows my mind but coaches are teaching it and I guess they must be getting good results more often than not. Not my favorite technique but oh well.

This has long been my stance… maybe, just maybe, this coaching staff knows more about football than the fans do…. Just a thought, I know that was not the case with the last 3 or 4 HC’s, but Heupel & his guys know what they’re doing!

Great post but can you imagine how good we’d be with a sec caliber quarterback? If somebody would’ve told me that milroe would be better than Milton I would’ve laughed you out of the room. Milroe is way better and that’ll be the difference next week

I think we only threw 2 total screens that I remember (Sampson to the left, squirrel to the right)

Agree. Milton has regressed. He was really bad today, inaccurate, slow to read, not confident. But I certainly don't think playing a true freshman is the answer. It just is what it is.

Great take. Love the mamaw and coleslaw analogy. I’m fully onboard with mayonnaise in coleslaw. Like the football stuff too.

But he did run better today. I think that after his first run someone must have reminded him that he's a big guy and can run over other big guys.
