I just miss going to Atlanta for the SEC Championship....

Actually I take that back, I don't remember much going to atlanta. I'm too young. 😔

Yeah but you can't really blame Cutcliffe for any decline. We won at least 10 games in 5 of his 8 seasons as our OC including his last season here in 2007. The Fulmer downfall was losing Cut.

It is just my opinion but if Cutcliffe had never left the staff in 1998, I think they would all still be here and we would still be counting SEC Championships and maybe even another National Championship. Did we ever come close to a losing season from 1993-1998 or 2006-2007? Nope. We made the most of what we had with the exception of some Arian Foster fumbled away games.

I don't really know what went down but the rumor was that Fulmer was willing to pay Cut more $ to keep him around but Chavis raised hell and the rest is history.

Not going to lie. It sure did suck to see him and chef go. But the bad run after that was on the AD department.

Cutcliffe wanted his own program and you can't blame him for that but when evaluating the Fulmer tenure, you really do have to break down his 152-52 record into two categories:

Fulmer's record with Cutcliffe as OC: 86-19 (2 SEC titles and 1 National Championship)

Fulmer's record without Cutcliffe as OC: 66-33 (0 SEC titles and 0 National Championships)

Fulmer's only problem was losing Cutcliffe. Just look at the difference between Tennessee's offense in 2006 from 2005 with mostly the same players.

I really don't understand the thought process of the people still espousing Fulmer's record and whining about Jones record. I hope you're smart enough (though I doubt it) to realize that Fulmer's record for his last 4 years was 29-21 after having 12 years to build the program. Jones record after 4 years is 29-21 (with a bowl game to go) while rebuilding the program practically from scratch.

Get real people. We are still climbing out of a very deep hole and I for one appreciate the efforts of the young men that have done that for us.

Case in point. Piss all over the guy who won 152 games and a natty, in favor of the guy who just lost to SCar and Vandy in the same year when he was a prohibitive favorite to win a bad SECe. Damn, some of you people.....

Of course you've already been labeled a Fulmer hater by those who miss the point. I liked Phil and didn't think we should cut him loose but folks were sure he would never win a title again (kind of like thinking Butch will never win anything)...he couldn't beat Saban or Meyer and could no longer dominate Georgia after Richt came in. Then his old nimissis took over at South Carolina. His wins were down and recruiting was down. People were upset with mediocre results so he was cut loose. Those who act like they wish he was still coach are the same ones saying we should have championships so we need to fire Butch. I seriously doubt our record against Bama would be any different if we had kept Phil - we wouldn't have any more titles than we have now.

We are smart enough to realize that it's not just Fulmer we miss. The last two years of Fulmer/Cutcliffe in '06 and '07 were 19-8... It's perfectly reasonable to think that combination is better than anything we will ever see from a Butch Jones staff.

As has been said a million times previously.....it was time for Phil to go. It was.

The problem wasn't getting rid of Phil, it was the choices of who to hire since then that are responsible for the mess.

HOWEVER......

Anyone, particularly now, that can't sit back and look at what Phil achieved and salute the man for what he accomplished is a fool.

I still don't get how a significant portion of this fan base continues to rip a guy who is responsible for the best era of football most of you have been alive to see or may ever see.

A great example of this is to look at the years where "Fulmer lost his edge" or "Fulmer ran the program into the ground", etc, etc, etc. You'll find that 2002-2008 have been better than what you have had to endure since his departure and its not close.
