I agree. DL #'s are very important in the SEC, but you also need OL, LBs, RBs, and so on. Defensive Tackles running the ball or playing QB may not look right. :p

tell that to robert nkemdiche last year for the Black Bears. i bet that would help us with our short yardage problem. He averaged more than 6 yards a carry (only on 5 carries though). and i know i am a TN fan but dang ole pisses website sucks.

that being said I am with you LV

I like Phillips a lot and yes I like he is an in state talent. However there is absolutely no way I would trade Sweat for any in state player this year. We don't have a Jalen Hurd or Josh Malone type of talent in state this year. Sweat is a monster and quite possibly THE BEST player in the country. No in state player is worth letting him go.

I would take Richmond over Sweat, but other than him...I agree with ya.

If Sweat wants in, he gets in.

It's like Chuck Norris, Jr. that plays football.

Yeah no clue why people are so stuck on the numbers when talking elite kids. Trust me the numbers will have zero effect on a sweat , Richmond or Phillips. So its a dumb conversation. Numbers game is for the tweeners, bad grade prospects, trouble makers and borderline your not sure if he is next star or bust guy. Sure fire bets like the 3 people are comparing are 100 percent takes hell two are practically in the bag.

you must not have seen the 25 other threads where some constantly say the numbers matter only to people wanting to get on board, not ones committed... but don't worry,it will be said 500 more times in 25 other player threads... but I totally agree on those 3 and a couple more, they are takes no matter what... grade issues would be the only caveat to not taking one

Phillips is instate. To me, that adds value. I also think Phillips is a lot more likely than Sweat at least at this point. If I only had room to take 1 more DE, I would NOT tell Phillips No today in hopes of getting Sweat down the road. Yes, I know there is the group who says, "they are all takes", I just don't fall into that group.

Have to agree with Leb on this one. You go with the in state kid simply because all of the value it brings down the road with other potential players.

Exactly. When dealing with truly elite players the whole numbers thing is meaningless. Guys like Sweat don't come along often and even less often do they have us as a major player for them. If CBJ can get Phillips, Richmond and Sweat then he will figure it out. Also I hate it when people on here think they understand the numbers game. The coaches do. We on. VN really don't.

Or take both? I mean y'all can preach numbers all you want but bottom line if both Sweat and Phillips want to be a part of this class they will make room. You don't turn away one of the 10 best players in the country. Even if Sweat calls CBJ on Feb 3rd and wants to sign his UT LOI he would still be a take.
