'15 VA ATH Jaason Lewis

This is refreshing. A highly talented kid decides to go elsewhere because he is scared away by our depth chart.

Times are changing.

It's pretty awesome. Bummer he didn't choose UT but this kids a 5 star and he was afraid of UT's RB depth chart? Wow, that is great to hear!

"I liked Tennessee but they had too many guys at my position," Lewis said. "I know I'll have to fight for my spot but I don't want to go in somewhere where they already have their foundation set. UCLA still needs guys to come in and they are one piece away from a national championship."

Just like Otha Peters at Arkansas.

Arky had no chance, at Mora us actually building something... Not the same...

Spot on analysis KB!...I always wait for your perspective on these tough calls

I studied it Butch, ciphered on it.... you can't get that type of analysis just anywhere.

Really--one piece away?

Mora is a good coach, and UCLA has improved....but some serious salesmanship going on here....:salute:

Exactly. Next year is their one-year window with Hundley coming back for one more season, but they are not national title contenders even then.

Any kid afraid of competition isn't the type you want to bring in anyway. They will transfer out quickly. Running back is the one position where you can have a good amount of depth & the guys still get playing time.

Who says we aren't recruiting him at RB? Who says UT is telling him he can't play RB?

My comment is more about his choice of words than his choice of schools..

Most 'business decisions' are thought out after a little research and looking at a few different possibilities.. From what I've read here, it doesn't appear he did this..

That being said, hope he does well..

It's too bad he and adoree are scared of the SEC and competition :( and it takes 11 pieces working together on offense, defense, and ST to win a Natty.

To be fair, his 5 stars are based on his defensive potential, not his RB potential, but still, it's refreshing.

If Jaason puts up obscene numbers at RB this yr, I'll buy into him being a full time collegiate RB until then he is making a BAD business decision as his size/speed/strength could have him being a 'Greg Hardy' type pass rusher.

I honestly don't think Lewis is a 5* RB. His 4.55-4.6 speed would keep him from being rated that high if he were ranked as a RB only.

Hurd 5*, Scott 4*, Paulk 3*. IMO it was more of a taking 3 in 1 class than who those 3 were. As I mentioned before ucla took 1 RB in 2014. Can't blame a kid at all for looking at depth charts before making his decision.

I'm sure Bama bandwagoners used the same reasoning with Hurd.

No where near the same really. I know a few questioned Hurds height but all his evaluations were for RB. Not to mention a very highly rated running back that is nearly a consensus 5 star at RB. Top 5 or top 10 running back by every service who evaluated him. Lewis has been told by nearly everyone he needed to play another position and have based all his ratings at another position.

It's well known that Saban viewed Jalen as a safety and wanted reps during their camp...he and Bama fans were equally shocked that he passed...would be interested in Vol74's view of that courtship.

He fell in love so fast. Thought he was ours to lose. Won't be surprised if he flips to someone else eventually.
