'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

exactly... could be like Bray was with Buddy Hackett as the DC,and throw for 350 yards and 3 td's and lose 42-35,but Bray couldn't beat them...

We are going to have a dominate D for the next decade or so so it is on the QB. Tons of offensive weapons, what's so hard for y'all to understand?

What exactly are you arguing? He hasn't even gotten here. Nobody knows if he can beat UF or Bama yet. No QB we have ever signed in the history if TN football has already had those wins on their resume. He looks the part. That's what you want in a recruit. Let the rest play out and relax.

Not trying to argue, I think those guys were just bored and messing around with me.

Not to mention Dobbs first games were @Bama, Auburn, and @Mizzou. What was he really supposed to do against those guys?? I think he'll look like a totally different QB this season.
+1. I think it will be really hard for Butch to sit Worley, him being a Senior and all...but as we saw in the O/W game, Dobbs' is going to have a break out season. He's so well rounded, I can't see us not starting him.

I got Matthew Stafford and Chris Leak. There are several others that were decent but the last 10 years is a fairly limited time frame.

One not so obvious reason we don't see many true Freshman stud QB's is because the best QB prospects go to schools that already have great QB's in place.

Not a prediction but with the weapons we will have next year it may be a perfect time for a true Freshman to have a Casey Clausen type freshman season.

He's not in the SEC, but the Hackenberg kid up at Penn State was an animal his freshman year. He doesn't get a lot of attention compared to Jameis, Mariota, or some other guys, but he's gonna be the next stud NFL QB.

and you know this how exactly Nostradamus? if we are going to have the 2nd coming of the Legion of Boom why cant he just hand it off like Bama Qb's? they win over their biggest rivals, and all they do is turn around and hand it to the RB with the occasional play action pass... I mean if getting the snap from center and sticking it in the belly of a RB is "all on the QB",then yes,I guess it is all on the QB at Bama,Wisconsin, and a few other successful schools...

there are 21 other players on the field, its not all on the QB.Thats why Peyton and those UT teams didnt win more championships, they relied on Peyton too much. they played great defense, special teams, and had a balanced offense, played as a team, and won a National Championship the next year... now whats so hard to understand?

I hope I'm wrong about Dobbs not having "it" but his feet were the only thing he had going for him. Everytime he went to pass it made me hold my breath.
IMO the best thing Dobbs can do to help UT is use them Rocket Surgeon smarts of his to help get Dormady ready for the 2015 season opener.

I have a dream...

I have a dream that one day my Tennessee Volunteers will not have to start true freshmen in the SEC

I share your dream but I don't think we'll be there by 2015.
I remember how people used to talk trash about Fulmer for not wanting to play freshmen. They'd say " he should let the best players play"

If you don't have a true freshman starting, it means you aren't recruiting superstars.

FSU started Ramsey last year
Alabama started Cooper and Collins in 2012
etc...

And If you have a lot of true freshmen stating, it means you haven't recruited well for several years.

And if you have a true freshman QB starting, it means you haven't recruited or developed QBs well.

And the announcers stopped mid sentence on one of his first throws against bama.
Kid shouldnt have played and finished the year with a bum right hand and plant leg.
Pretty awesome that internet folk haven't clue what he went through. And to write him off after being a hurt true freshman trying to lead a new team and program against one of the toughest schedules.
VN complainers have little to no perspective and knowledge about too much. It's not Xbox.

yeah but on the xbox it is the xbox, and they are the coach (OC & DC) and quarterback. so they know what they are talking about. throwing these console generals under the bus is a little mean. And I bet they always beat bama and florida too, even with Illinois/Colorado/Directional State U. :)

Like I said I hope Dobbs proves me wrong. I've been told in this thread that I didn't watch the games and that I never played. Both are wrong so I figured I'd check the stat's in case I dreamed up how poor Dobbs played. He played in 4.5 games throw for just 695 yds, 2TD's and 6 INTs.
Tough competition yea yea

There's a reason Wonderlic scores matter more for positions such as QB than say WR.

There is far more to the QB position than just being a freak athlete, particularly when you're playing the level of competition that the SEC provides. You can't learn the inner workings of the playbooks, the strengths and weaknesses of your receivers and the finer points of the craft after just spending three months on a college campus.

Guys like Cam Newton are outliers. To be a successful QB in the SEC, you need to develop your mind, just as much as your body. Expecting a true freshman to have that down from Day 1 is asinine logic.

Wonderlic scores are useless and have nothing to do with football.

Okay, North and Sutton started last year as true freshmen. They were studs.

We're talking about QBs and that response has been refuted by actual facts. Off the top of my head, I think there are less than three QBs with a rumored Wonderlic score of under 20, if that. All others had higher than 20.

And yet the percentage of NFL starters with scores under 20 is much higher for skill positions that require little aptitude (kick returning, corner backs, etc...). So yeah, whether or not you could be legally classified as being mentally retarded does matter if you want to be an NFL quarterback.

Call me crazy, but I think most teams value knowing whether the QB prospect they're about to invest in -- and who will be entrusted with learning a 50+ page playbook -- is literate and capable of performing basic math problems.

IMO, 1-2 true freshmen starters per year is more indicative that they are studs.

More than that, then it's probably a depth issue.

True freshmen starting at the skill positions usually mean studs.

True freshman starting on the lines or at QB usually mean just what you said or bc of injuries.
