There was no way he was going to get playing time over Peyton. He saw the handwriting on the wall and did the smart thing for himself... and helped us win a NC. Something Peyton couldn't do.

It is remarkable how quickly these kids mature physically, though.

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect, because I hadn’t even talked to (Tennessee),” said Stidham, who also claims early offers from Baylor, Kentucky, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

“They said I have a strong arm and good speed and all that kind of stuff, like most guys say or whatever,” said Stidham, who claims to have been timed in the “high-4.5, low-4.6” range in the 40-yard dash. “The big thing they were talking to me about is how their, I guess, quarterback situation is right now. They don’t have a ‘14 guy committed, and they actually have one offer out on the table for a ‘14 (quarterback), so it would be a good fit.

“If I were to come in, I could have a shot at starting as soon as I get there. That’s what they were basically talking about.”

“It was pretty impressive,” he said. ‘We worked out in the stadium first, and throwing there, I mean, that was pretty sweet. The campus was pretty nice, and the facilities are real nice and everything, so I was pretty impressed with everything.

“I mean, it’s definitely a school I’m interested in. It is appealing that they might not take anyone (at quarterback) in that ‘14 class. If anyone’s interested in me, I’m interested in them, is how I’m taking everything right now and kind of soaking it all in, for the most part.”

He stated that he really likes CBJ, Bajakian, and especially Kempt (because he's recently removed from D1 football, and he can relate really well to Stidham).

Stidham originally grew-up in Corbin, KY, and he's lived in TX for the past 8 years. Last, he's not committing to anyone soon, and he said he would narrow things down next spring. He wants to see how the offenses at the schools he likes perform during the fall.

I guess we have our answer on taking a QB in 2014.

Polite post-visit quotes, IMO. He didin't sound blown away, which is pretty unusual when people see our facilities.

Let's see how it plays out over the next year+

Meh. He's still a kid. There's a long way to go here. He probably hasn't had very many comparison points. Butch will keeping working this kid. :good!:

I thought we were #1 in the BCS championship weekend? I think FSU benefitted from all those teams losing. Really FSU was not the second best team that yr they were Ala of that yr and were lucky teams in front of them kept losing.

No, we needed k-state and UCLA to lose to be sure.

It was widely believed at the time that an undefeated UCLA and an undefeated Kansas State would get the nod over undefeated Tennessee.

At worst we needed one to lose to be assured of a spot. Both losing opened the door for FSU, who was much better than UCLA or KSU anyway.

Ironically, UCLA playing that weekend of the championship games vs Miami was a makeup game. The game was actually scheduled earlier in September, but was cancelled and resheduled due to a hurricane that hit south Fla. Had they played earlier in the season when it was scheduled, they might have won that game, and Tennessee and UCLA would have been playing in Tempe.

I think he's a good athlete. I think he threw it really, really well this week. Tennessee seems to love him after seeing him this week.

I still can't believe the trade that New Orleans made to be able to draft him...gave up all 6 of their draft picks for that year and their 1st and 3rd round picks for the next year. Just crazy. We'll never see anything like that again IMO.

"I was actually camping at Kentucky on Friday and literally out of the blue coach (Cody) Kempt, the assistant quarterbacks coach (and graduate assistant), emailed my high school coach and told him they'd really like me to come down to the campus," Stidham said. "I had honestly never heard from them but they contacted my coach on Friday and I was here on Monday. It was out of nowhere, honestly."

"It was pretty cool. I didn't really know what to expect," Stidham explained. "Obviously, there's a lot of tradition and history with Tennessee football. It was cool, though. As soon as I got there me and two other quarterbacks worked out for the coaching staff. We threw the ball around a little bit.

"After that we did the touring and toured the academic center and toured all the way through the complex and got to talk to the strength and conditioning coaches. I was thoroughly impressed with everything."

"The facilities were really impressive with them renovating everything. That was cool. Interacting with coach Jake. I really like the way he coaches and I had a lot of people tell me he's a coach that really looks at the details of everything," Stidham said. "I really liked coach Kempt. The thing I like about him is he's three years our of college and he was in my shoes not too long ago and he can really relate to me quite well. So, just interacting with those guys and talking to coach Jones who was really laid back and cool. I just really like what they're doing up there. It's exciting."

He says he's not going to make an early decision, he wants to go through the process, see many schools and pick the one where he's most comfortable. He also said that he's not from Texas so he has no problem playing out of state.

I want this guy bad and it seems that he is also the coaches number one guy at QB, so the more he loves our jerseys the better IMO
