There is a fine line to tread in these scenarios but we need 85 quality scholarship players. Last year, Zeus wasn't going to make it in, Lambert flipped, and (not starting this debate but) weathered still hasn't officially enrolled. A lot of things can change and while I hope the coaching staff is honest with players and parents, their loyalty lies to the university, team and fans to put the best possible product on the field.

Agree. When recruits can switch at the last minute, so can coaches IMO. It is a business. A Nasty one but that's life. Not always fair.

Coaches may prefer they walk as well.

Maybe.

I'd just prefer they not even take commitments from kids if there is any doubt they would allow them to sign come NSD.

Losing your top ranked Punter and Long Snapper could sting if you try to pull some shady stuff late.

Also I look at the recruits can flip situation as it depends on each recruit and how they are doing things. IF the recruit commits and shuts their recruitment down, IMO the coaches should be locked in just as the recruit is. IF the recruit tries to take visits(even OVs) later on or "opens things back up", I am all for their spot being up for grabs.

You don't have that luxury anymore. Most kids get upset having to wait, and the players on our commitment list are wanted by top programs.

It's always a calculated risk but they have to do it IMO. It sucks for sure.

We pull Richmond and Tuttle this class is a great success period.

That's how I feel. Honestly if the staff adds just about ANY 3-4 more players to the current class and IMO it's a win. Richmond, Sapp, and Tuttle would be 3 I would like to see Vols. Jefferson and Phillips as well BUT I also think WR and DE are 2 spots I think we are sitting pretty good at.

I bet we take all five of those guys plus at least one more surprise commit no-one sees coming. We haven't seen any attrition from this class except Dews that I can think of

I can almost guarantee we will have more than 6 new commits. Recruiting never goes as planned

This time last year, who would have thought our class wouldn't have Mouhon, Lauderdale, and Kameel in it.

We will probably get 2-3 commits from guys we don't even know about yet

In addition to the three you mentioned:

Dominique Booth
Brandon Powell
Orlando Brown
Devonte Lambert
Lawrence Lee
Jerome Dews

...were all committed to Tenn at one point last year but did not sign with us. Except for Lambert, most of them were 3 star players or in Dews (and I believe Lee's) case 2*. That is not by coincidence. As better prospects are ready to make their moves some of the 3* players will be directed elsewhere (sorry if that sounds cold)...It's too early in the process to worry about numbers.

Booth was a composite 4*, Brown had grade concerns and thank you for editing your post.

I agree. It's always fluid. Some guys may not qualify and some may get recruited over.

No he's not. Some recruits turn into riff raff. They're young kids. Plenty of them have their precious scholly's pulled each year because of it.

riff raff
noun: riff-raff
disreputable or undesirable people.
"I don't think they talk to riffraff off the street"
synonyms: rabble, scum, good-for-nothings, undesirables, lowlifes, hoi polloi, lowest of the low, peasants

Has nothing to do with having a scholarship yanked. Calling 17 and 18-year-olds scum in a public forum because they have a lower rating as a recruit is disgusting.

Dramatic. Everyone knows he was referring to their football ability, not their personal character. 99% of the world is riff raff when it comes to SEC football. You sound like PETA and GLAAD and NAACP getting outraged over comments because they use nonstandard adjectives about anything related to a person or animal.

How many of those kids listed were instate commitments(TN)?

While there could be various reasons for each not signing, I think most were not so much the staff telling them to look elsewhere.

Booth wanted to be an EE. Would the staff still took him on NSD? Who knows.

Powell stayed instate which was always a strong possibility.

Brown as you mentioned was grades.

Lambert could have been questionable grades or he could have very well just flipped on the UT staff.

Lee bailed as the depth chart scared him. Not sure I see that being a factor with the current commitments and only a few spots left.

Dews was always a GS candidate and questionable to be a Vol. Grades were reported an issue as well.

Mouhon could have been asked to look elsewhere or was it him wanting to play ball with his brother? Would the staff have taken him on NSD? Who knows.

Jackson was grades obviously as he did not sign anywhere and is still in Juco. Juco and grade concerns kind of go hand in hand.

Could the staff had told some of these guys to look elsewhere? Maybe. Maybe not so much?
