'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

I understand Hurd and McKenzie will never be on the field at the same time so there is nothing wrong with it but wouldn't you want a number that is all your own? If I was a DT I wouldn't want to share a number with a starting RB.

So McKenzie won't be playing fullback on O?

I agree, I really hope he decides to wear something other than 1. I really liked the idea of him lining up in the backfield after watching the US Army all American game. He would be a hell of a lead blocker for Hurd. Even give him the ball occasionally. I really hope UT coaches incorporate that next year with him. Never seen a man as big as him move that well. Would love to see him line up a fullback.
I wouldn't mind seeing him as a lead blocker, but we have good enough backs where we don't need anyone else to get the ball, even on short yardage. I don't like the way big guys get tackled. Guys either go straight for the knees or even jump on top of them sometimes. Both very dangerous. I'd rather just let Hurd, Kamara, and Bussey punch it in.

I understand where you are coming from but when you get a guy as big as Kahlil running full speed its almost impossible to stop a guy that big on 3rd and inches. Our version of "The fridge". I say line him up as a lead blocker on short yard situations then very occasionally give him the ball near the goal line and let the big guy punch it in. He could be unstoppable near the end zone. I don't want to see him carrying it 3-4 times a game, more like 3-4 times a year. When defenses least expect it and only in short yardage situations.

If a cb tried to tackle KM at his knees he would get his head knocked clean off his shoulders. KMs leg is bigger than my waste and let's just say I'm no underwear model.

I got enough of his offensive exploits in those Army All Star practices...sure Butch had enough too.

Personally I like the idea of Kahlil lining up at fullback occasionally. Just my personal opinion.

The idea is fine...until he gets up limping the first time...then Volnation chews Butch a new one...and deservedly so.

Bull Market Award

Kyle Phillips
Defensive-End
Nashville (Tenn.) Hillsboro

This goes to the player who raised his stock the most during the week. Currently ranked as the No. 146 player in the 2015 class, the 6-foot-3, 259-pound Phillips probably should have won Army Bowl MVP after his five-tackle, two-sack game. He was simply unblockable and wreaked havoc in the West backfield. Phillips was dominant all week in practice as well, ranking as a top performer each of the three days we covered practices. The Tennessee commit has a deadly combination of power and speed off the edge.

It did not take long for Phillips to make his presence known on game day. He was all over the field and was making ball carriers pay big for attempting to gain yardage against the East defense. He had a big sack and another tackle for loss during the game and when he arrived, he arrived angry.

This young man should get a bump in ranking soon. He's a beast and I'm glad he'll be playing for the good guys!

Nothing gimmicky about 330 fb or rb in short yardage situations. If he keeps his pads low he is unstoppable.

I like the idea of KM in goal line situations a la ...

If Phillips is ranked a four star at 146 and talk at rivals of him moving up to a five star, what is the guess of the number he would move up to?

How many average five stars in the rivals final ranking?

I want to say it has been in the 30's somewhere. If so he is in for a huge bump, at least 110 spots.

Hubbs suggested that he wouldn't be moved to a 5 star on Rivals, but would get a bump in his overall ranking.

He would move into the top ~32. Yes it would be a gigantic leap, but one he is totally deserving of after this past week.

This is awesome! I'm going to get 3 Phillips's jerseys for my wife, son (just turned 3), and I to go to the games next year. Just fyi, we are the Phillips family!

Any player can get hurt on any given play. I don't buy into that. If Kahlil is the best player on the team to be a fullback in short yardage situations then you play him. Cant be worried all the time about guys getting hurt, if it gives us a better chance at picking up first downs then I am all for it.

I won't get worried about him getting hurt playing his position...tricking up stuff because it looks cool seems like a lot of needless risk...JMO

I don't want Kahlil in the backfield because it "looks cool" I want him in the backfield so we can pick up first downs on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1. Could care less about how it looks. I am more concerned about maintaining drives and scoring touchdowns. If Kahlil gives us a better chance at doing that, then I am all for it. The Bengals play Peko in the fullback position, the Ravens play Ngata in the fullback position as well. I could see us using Kahlil the same way. Works for them. Just my personal opinion.

Not dogging you for your opinion...I just disagree with it...I'm a Bears fan too...dating to before that magical year...and I got as pumped as the rest of the nation over the Fridge craze...which originated as a Ditka answer to Bill Walsh using Guy McIntyre as a blocking back against the Bears the previous season. Remember McIntyre?...he was a future 5 time Pro Bowler at OG. They managed to get first downs AND touchdowns with him blocking... and he didn't even play DT! :loco: Can't say why Harbaugh utilizes Ngata in that role...his brother used to QB the Bears ...maybe it influenced him? Maybe the first time the OPPOSING TEAM gets a first down or TD over the hole his Pro Bowl NT would have closed if he hadn't got dinged up playing the other way?... He'll stop? Don't really care...I'm not a Ravens fan...I like the Vols tho!
