GigEm247 reported Wednesday that Chavis has accepted an offer to become Texas A&M’s new defensive coordinator, and multiple reports have indicated that Haley — who played under Chavis at Alabama A&M — could follow Chavis.

Phillips said that “definitely” would affect his final decision between the Tigers, Rebels and Vols.

“It definitely does, especially since I’m graduating early and I’m going right into it,” said Phillips, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 110 overall prospect and No. 8 strongside defensive end in the 247Sports Composite.

“Maybe if I wasn’t (going to be an early enrollee), that might not affect it as much. But not knowing if they’re staying or not, it does affect my decision a little bit.”

The 6-foot-3.5, 250-pound Phillips said either Chavis or Haley leaving would “have a big impact” on his decision, but Haley’s fate might play into it “probably more” than what happens with Chavis.

“Coach Haley (would affect things) probably more, especially since I don’t know who my position coach would be,” Phillips said. “They both kind of have a big impact. But the position coach probably is a little bit more.”

“My family’s kind of big UT fans — some of them — and they’re probably the easiest access to go to games and stuff at UT. They’re pretty close to home. I know a lot of people that go there, so I’m pretty comfortable around the campus and the coaching staff and the players, so that’s a big factor.”

Yea it makes so much sense that if he goes somewhere else then he just simply don't wana be a Vol. But I think he will.

He said my family are big UT fans, but then says some of them. Does anyone else think maybe his mom does not like UT and that is why there seems to be some reluctance? We know some of his family are big UT fans but it seems there may be a dissenting voice in there somewhere. JMO

Or maybe he doesn't want to show his hand before his big day Saturday. If he is making an announcement between UT and LSU and you eliminate LSU there is no longer anything to announce. That might be why Ole Miss was brought back in and after their drubbing today LSU gets put on life support as well just to make it look like an actual decision.

It could be that.

Mom is a vandy fan. Franklin painted a bad picture of TN to anyone that would listen while he was at Vandy especially regarding academics. It's like with any situation when you only have one side of the story being told you tend to believe the story of the person that first got to you. I think that honestly has played a big part of it from her end of not being as open minded to us as other schools. The vandy TN hate
