'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Kirkland signed his papers so he can have unlimited contact right? FaceTime with Phillips on Kirkland's smarty IMO.

I'm not sure. Someone posted that only applies to the first set of papers and it's my understanding that Kirkland sighned those with MI first. Nothing wrong with Kahlil or Kirkland initiating the face time action though regardless.

This is great news and all, but I never understand how teams can make a surge when we are in a dead period. I know recruits can call the coaches, and I think the coaches can make one call per week. I guess that's how. Just seems that surges would happen when visits occur, not with just a simple conversation on the phone. Maybe the surge is due to everyone involved knowing that Chavis is leaving.

Ths was explained in detail on ESPN when talking about Michigan situation, twitter, facebook etc. communication still happens. Also when coaches leave it's going to have a effect a lot of times, especially if coaches involved recuited the player. Now sometimes the love for the school trumps that but when distance is a factor and things are even with another school most of the time it does. GO BIG ORANGE!!!!

Phillips has said his relationships with players on the team will be huge in his decision making process. I can't believe we are not leading in that category. Something though just doesn't feel right here. It looks like he's looking for an excuse not to be a Vol. I can't imagine what that could be unless he does not have confidence that we've turned the corner here. He's stated multiple times he wants to play for a winner and maybe he has doubts that UT is close to competing for championships.

Agree with this. Something doesn't feel right here. I'm starting to wonder if Ole Miss is in better shape than everyone realizes, especially with his comment about being closest with Chris Kiffin, who would be his position coach. Something smells and it's not corn dogs.

I am in agreement here. It just seems to me as if he is looking for a reason not to go to UT. That's his prerogative, obviously, but even with Chavis leaving, I still do not feel confident that UT will land Phillips. I hope that I am wrong.

GBO!

Can't blame the kid if he's hesitating. Although I firmly believe our trajectory is on the UP side, we've been a .500 team the last 7 years (since he was 10-11 years old). Kids want success and a sure winner, can't fault that.

The recruiting job for the coaches is future success and being the bedrock for that foundation. Not always an easy sell when your 6-6.

BTW, Vol.

Football Scoop website said that Chavis is coming back to his home in Knoxville to think about his decision. Said he talked with Miles last night and spoke with Sumlin yesterday as well. His buyout goes to zero at midnight.

If he goes to ole miss it is clear he just didn't want to be a Vol.

I would add to that if he still ends up in Baton Rouge, he just didn't want to be a Vol. With Chavis leaving if he still goes there it will be obvious that we've been wasting our time with Kyle.

So frustrating that we battle so hard for these guys, then the chips fall our way with Chavis, only to hear Ole Miss is making a late surge in the dead period???

I thought these were two horse races between UT and LSU.. Which was weird enough.

Lol, I bet he sticks with LSU.

I find it difficult to believe he will still pick LSU with Chavis and DL coach (probably) gone. I think McKenzie and Kirkland work him over and get him. Would be nice if they were on the same team though, so they could practice on the same unit.

I agree with you, it's hard to fathom but, I would rather be going to a DCless LSU than Ole Miss but that's just me.

How long has ole miss been winning? This peach bowl run is as good as it will get bc they are in the west

They play in 2 hours. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ole Miss really clamp down on TCU. TCU hasn't played a defense like Ole Miss yet. It's an interesting matchup though.
