'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

This is great news and all, but I never understand how teams can make a surge when we are in a dead period. I know recruits can call the coaches, and I think the coaches can make one call per week. I guess that's how. Just seems that surges would happen when visits occur, not with just a simple conversation on the phone. Maybe the surge is due to everyone involved knowing that Chavis is leaving.

I know we've recruited really well and not being a Debbie downer but it kinda sucks that tard Miles pretty much beat us out for a couple kids in nashville we've been after hard the whole time. I know the decision wasn't made yet and nothing was or even still is final but chavis leaving might be what saves us from an lsu backyard raid.

Only one has committed and that ONE was slow played by us until recently.

Man little brother needs to go ahead and commit
No doubt. I think he will join his brother, eventually.

Man, Khalil, and King Tut is going to change the whole defensive makeup. The worst thing that can happen for a QB is to have constant pressure up the middle. You can't setup to pass. You can't run with 2 320-350lb DT's crashing your backfield.

And Phillips should be jumping at the chance to play next to those guys. Why? Because QB's cannot step up in the pocket to avoid their rush = sacks.

Whoever is the DE, playing next to those guys, is going to get paid by getting into the league and drafted higher than they would otherwise, cause their sack totals are going to be ridiculous.

You can see that happen in the NFL. Wherever there is a dominant DT, the DE playing next to him has much higher sack and tackles for loss numbers. Kyle Vanden Bosch looked like a scrub before he got to the Titans. He played next to Albert Haynesworth (who was playing at a Pro Bowl level for the last 2yrs of his contract), and suddenly VandenBosch looked like a ProBowl DE, himself.

Suh helps his DE's as well, with the Lions.

Hubbs said Ole Miss is making a late push and Phillips is very confused right now with the Chavis news. UT also very involved still

Phillips has said his relationships with players on the team will be huge in his decision making process. I can't believe we are not leading in that category. Something though just doesn't feel right here. It looks like he's looking for an excuse not to be a Vol. I can't imagine what that could be unless he does not have confidence that we've turned the corner here. He's stated multiple times he wants to play for a winner and maybe he has doubts that UT is close to competing for championships.
