'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

It's just a flesh wound.

Thought for sure when Jackson backed out that this guy was in the bag. That Hendrix defect is starting to look a little worse than originally thought. Really need to land another SDE this year.

I think Barnett getting all these early accolades has really hurt our DE recruitment. Kids don't seem to want to be "coached up", they want to come in and play and let the Scheme make their career.

Butcher is gonna grow into a SDE, taylor and Ford are Speed rushers/ OLB. I'd like to get phillips but if we get a QB, CB, or RB instead I'd be fine with it.

The players who have transferred from the 2014 class were sold on "early playing time" and I guess the three players (Hendrix, Helm, and Scott) translated that to "starting job when they step on campus" which is not the same as "early playing time." All three of those former players were passed up by other players in the same recruiting class which immediately sets off the alarm "I'm never going to start" in their head. All of the former players received considerable playing time (except Scott, considering he was hurt, or he would have) so them transferring is not a disappointment. They expected to come onto campus and have a job handed to them, which is not what we want. We want players who are courageous enough to face and fight adversity (being a #2 behind a player of the same class) and earn a job. Good riddance of all three, they can be described as cowards.

These recruits in the next class are probably not being told the same thing because of the emerging stars we have now. They realize a red shirt is possible, and they'll have to fight for their spot. It sure would be nice to have Derek Barnett (Jr.) and Kyle Phillips (Rs. Soph) as our #1 and #2 SDEs in 2016.

Not gonna cry if he goes to lsu

I might. Defense is my favorite side of the ball. After several years of watching our extremely porous defense break, game after game, I was ecstatic to finally see improvement this year. If we don't maintain DL depth, we'll backslide. Everything starts at the LoS. If we can't build a rotation, we're not going to move forward. Offense is pretty, but defense wins championships. So yeah, losing a much needed in-state talent like Phillips might leave me shedding a few tears. Don't kid yourself, we need this young man, especially after the Hendrix departure and decommitment of Jackson.

In that scenario phillips would be a redshirt freshman. Even better!

Phillips is a huge get!
Screw LSU we need him!
I want to keep QB's permanently rattled in the back field and force the RB inside so our new street graders at DT can eat them up.
Bring him home Butch!

Early indications are that Danielle Hunter might not declare for the draft, not sure how that would effect a decision if at all, I still expect LSU to attempt to sign 2-3 more DEs if they are available.

I did hear Justin Martin is coming in for a OV in January. Rumors are Jalen Collins is probably gone to the NFL, Robinson's situation is cloudy.

That is a well articulated two paragraphs of fiction. Scott is the only one that is transferring due to playing time. Hendrix and Helm were transferring regardless of where they were on the depth chart.

There is only one class with two five star d tackels that will make d ends look better for nfl scouts due to their rush and that is UT

So are you saying there is only one class with two five star d tackles that will make d ends look better for nfl scouts due to their rush and that is UT?

That's not at all what he is saying.

He is saying there is only one class with two 5 star d tackles that will make d ends look better for NFL scouts due to there pass rush and that is UT.

I thought he was pretty clear.
