'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

CB'S rolling in for Ole Piss. The kid just waited to long.

I don't think so. I rhink they would make room for him, he just prefers Ole Miss imo. You win some and you lose some. We won't be hurting for DEs in this class and he isn't a make or break player. The only bad part about losing him is that he's in-state.

I agree. I think CBJ, etc., really wanted, and still want, Phillips. Sometimes you must swing and miss. I think UT has some solid options at DE--those on campus now and those either committed or interested in this class and the next. I wish Phillips would've been a Vol, but, if he is not, I think CBJ will find a good replacement.

Waited to long and had to settle for the*3rd ranked team in the country. What a shame for him. I love UT but thats just ridiculous. If Philips wanted to come here we would make room for him one way or another. This is just one we lost. Our class is still awesome but no sense in acting like his time ran out.

Ole Miss did a great job in the state of Tenn this year. We weren't hurt by it too much because we went into other states and took their best players. However, hopefully this isn't a trend for other schools to follow.

Just passing along what I had been told.Philiphs Amadi and Perry wanted to be a package deal to UT.Coach Jones really did want Kyle so UT offered Perry even though he had barely played the last 2 years. And UT picked up their interest in Amadi.Even though the UT staff favored Micah Abernathy and Justin Martin over Ugo. A couple of months later Kyle informs UT he isn't ready to commit. Coach Jones drops the package deal picks up the recruitment of the DE from Virginia forgot his name and D'Andre Walker. The DE from Virginia commits, UT is in Walkers top two and it looks like UT is gonna get Abernathy. So I guess I was wrong he didn't wait to long he just didn't want to go to UT. Any ways in my opinion I still think UT gets the better deal. But it's recruiting it could change tomorrow.

To me it's plain and simple. We go into Ole Miss 4-2 after beating Florida instead of losing to them, Phillips is probably still undecided. This past weekend's events pretty much fast tracked his apparent commitment.

Maybe so, but it's one game. I have no doubt that Freeze will keep OM competitive in the future, but they will not be on this high forever. Let's see how they do the next 4 weeks.

Winning is part of it, but there is more to recruiting than winning game. You can see Abernathy's quotes about that- very positive about what he saw and about his relationships with the coaches. I think it is time to move on.

Phillips has stated playing for a winning team is a priority for him. Ole Miss will have a better record than us than us. Rebel, IMO.

Phillips has always been wanted by UT but he doesn't want to be here. He would likely have been a package deal and those generally never work out well. I think Phillips was at the top of our board as a DE BUT the other two players we would've needed to take weren't necessarily the best options. I think this works out better in the long run for us but this isn't the staff passing on Phillips.

The recruitment of four-star defensive end Kyle Phillips out of Nashville (Tenn.) Hillsboro continues to be one of the most hotly-contested in the southeast. Over the weekend Phillips took in an unofficial visit to Ole Miss for what was a wild weekend in Oxford as the Rebels upset No. 3 ranked Alabama. According to a source, the positive experience continued what has been steady momentum for Ole Miss in Phillips' recruitment.
This morning, I changed my Crystal Ball prediction from LSU to Ole Miss. One source has indicated that the four-star's recruitment has begun to shift towards a two-team race between Ole Miss and Tennessee. Ole Miss' recent on-field success, coupled with a favorable depth chart at defensive line has the Rebels heading in the right direction. But Tennessee will have an opportunity to match the Rebels. Phillips tells 247Sports that he has tentative plans to visit Knoxville this weekend for Tennessee's game against Chattanooga.
While Tennessee and Ole Miss may be trending in the right direction, his other finalists of LSU and Alabama haven't been ruled out and continue to be in the mix. There is one other program that may sneak in as well. Though it hasn't been finalized yet, Phillips has talked with Penn State about setting up a potential official visit in November. The Nittany Lion staff, led by defensive line coach Sean Spencer, recruited Phillips heavily during their time at Vanderbilt and has increased its efforts of late from State College.
