'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Yeh replacing that awesome DL of the last 3 yrs Is gonna be so tough....not

This is kinda how I feel too. The pundits are talking about replacing both lines and how tough it will be. Most fans *****ed and moaned all last year how the OL was overrated and soft and now all of a sudden it's a problem they've moved on. I think changing systems likely had something to do with it, but there were too many times I saw OL'men just standing around. They made their initial burst and then the blocking stopped. I think this OL will be a little nastier and have a chip on their shoulder.

I think last year's O-line was built for a power blocking scheme. The read option generally calls for lighter more agile linemen. My hope is that the guys replacing last years O-linemen are better suited for CBJs offensive scheme. The D-line will be better. There's no doubt in my mind.

Then Blair is gonna have a tough time.

Some kids want to play for a team that is already winning. I guess they feel it's safer and less risky to stand on someone else's success than to forge your own. Sign of the times...

There's nothing wrong with this thought process. Just be straightforward about it.

"I want to win now."

Auburn has lighter, quicker more agile linemen. I wonder if that's the kind of guys CBJ is looking for?

It's understandable. Winning is more fun than losing.

Look at Kentucky; no one really wants to play there if there's not a bright outlook and if they're not showing signs of improvement.

By winning games, it sends a message of, "Hey, at least we're not a Kentucky!"

*****? We're UT! Does a lion concern himself with comparisons to a hamster?

Some of yall act like this kid owes us. We aren't entitled to his commitment. Kyle has always maintained that it's important Tennessee does well in the season as the health of a program appears to be factored heavily into his decision. And he did say a Bama offer would shake things up, so things could move fast there. Also, (speaking for myself) I'd like to know if the program I am going to commit to for the next 3-5 years is progressing the way the coaches promised me. And a season of football is perhaps the best way to judge if things are looking up for the program. So his concerns seem fair to me. Actually pretty reasonable. Don't think it means he is less passionate or anything like that. Just a different approach to recruitment.

If Phillips wants to be a Vol, great. I'd love to see him in Orange. With seeing how Barnett and Hendrix look in camp, I think both stay at DE for a while if not their whole UT careers. Adding Butcher, Jackson, and Ford at DE for 2015 is a solid group. Phillips in Orange would be great, but not a must IMO.

With me still thinking 3 more and that could be it for 2015, Richmond, Sapp, and Tuttle does not leave a spot for another DE unless we lose someone.

Word was that Phillips was pushing for Perry to get an offer. Is bama going to offer/take Perry to get Phillips?

Dylan Jackson will be converted into an OL in all probability.

This tweet blows....

@K72_Phillips: Official offer! University of Alabama #rolltideroll #RollTide 🔴⚪️🐘 http://t.co/8Pi2ygSmb5

Eh, have fun jumping aboard the gravy train. Still hope we land him, but it sounds like he wants to sit on the bench for a winning team.

Hope he has the ability to see past a record and see what is being built here long term.

I agree LV. He is projected to be a good player but I would not save a place for him if we can fill other needs. Like you said, we are pretty stacked at DE as is. I do believe he could play sooner at UT over Bama but a lot more than playing time goes into a decision.

Great post. I'd question the kids intelligence if he decided to go elsewhere while signing two 5* tackles who will require double teams. Phillips could be a stud here, but DE isn't a pressing need.

Sometimes committing to Bama is an ego thing and then does not pan out. I think Kyle will make the decision that is best for him just based on the fact his Mom is a very accomplished person in the sports world herself. He is probably getting some sound advice.
