'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Coach Haley is staying.

So the new DC is simply going to come in and keep the entire existing defensive staff. This is what they are selling Kyle. Man, recruiting is a nasty business. What DC is going to come in and not bring his own staff with him?

This young man needs to be smarter than this. I will just say this, no one should go negative if he selects LSU. With the load of crap they're selling, he'll probably transfer back anyway.

His Mom being a Vandy grad cannot help at all. Imagine all the butt whipings he grew up watching his mom's school take at UT's hands. Add to it he possibly already made a pledge with Ugo. Whatever Martin was for me the only must get and we got him.

It seems like hes got the hots for LSU right now. But we'll just have to wait and see. I'm hoping we can dominate Iowa the day before he choses.

Miles could promote from within.

That is how Chavis got the DC job at UT

That's the only circumstance where turnover wouldn't happen.

Another point to be made is the whole clause in Chavis' contract to begin with. Speculation that if Miles were gone that he would only be entitled to 6 months pay.

This implies to me that it's a strong reality that Miles will be gone.

I hope TCU beats the hell out of Ole Miss tonight.

If not getting this guy means we get to keep Miller and Oliver then I am fine. I like both of those guys' upside and oliver really seems to bleed orange.

I wonder if Miles was hoping Michigan would have offered him the job? He probably burned some bridges when he turned down the job a few years ago.

Not really.

Cutcliffe didn't clean house when he came back '06-07. He brought in Roper and Luke, but they filled openings - no one was fired to make room for them IIRC.

It happens - just not the norm.

Talk about the perfect storm. LSU blows a game and Chavis is basically showed the door by Les Miles. (Miles could have matched what A&M was going to pay).

Then you have Ole Miss being exposed and they are not going to get any better than a 40-3 blowout against a good team.

To be the highest paid DC he better have a top 3 defense every year IMO. LSU didn't think he was worth that and I'm not sure I blame them. He's a subpar recruiter and above average DC, I don't consider him worthy of being the highest paid coordinator in CFB. aTm struck out on numerous guys and had to really pony up the money to get someone to bite.

No way to know if we got Phillips or not, but you guys are bipolar as hell. I expect to see a lot of 'don't want this guy' posts if he commits this weekend. Stay consistent San Diego.

Not many coordinators are great recruiters. It's not their primary job at that point. This gets delegated to position coaches. The head coach however always needs to be a great closer.

I don't understand the pledge thing with Ugo at all. He made the announcement that he would commit at the AAA game a while back, why would he let Ugo make the statement that they would play together on twitter and ruin his highly sought after announcement? Maybe he told Ugo where he planned on playing and he jumped on the bandwagon with him. If it was me I would be pissed.

probably right, time to move on imo; if he is coming great, if not we will be fine

I think we land him. I think he is trolling fans. I know I would mess with people if i had guys analyzing my every word and after seeing how some fans act on Twitter.

Or he might just not want to go to UT. Which I don't get why he would have Tennessee as a choice this far in and be hanging out with our recruits unless it is to make his family happy.

I think he is clearly trolling fans and trying to leave some doubt in his recruitment. Do we really think he would be stringing his mom and whole family along too? They want him at UT.

Has had plenty of opportunity to commit to the Vols and I for one do not see him coming our way.

With or without him, our Dline is going to be killer
