'15 TN ATH Nathan Cottrell

Nope, not related at all. I've seen film on both as well as seen them both play in person. And I'm gonna stick by what I said. Cottrell is the better athlete, but Bruce is by far the bettter football player. Athleticism only takes you so far. Just wait until you see Cottrell in the college game where everyone is great athletes. He is succeeding on speed and athleticism alone. Bruce imo is the football player and who I would recruit and want on my team before Cottrell.

I respect that! I like both of them but I'd take Cottrell over Bruce. Mostly because I have seen Cottrell a few times and I think he plays with more heart then his athleticism...And there is not measurements for the Heart!

I wish for both to get tons of offers

I'm with you on the heart...Cottrell does have heart. And I wish nothing but great things for him and Bruce both. They each seem like good kids and deserve a shot somewhere...which they both will get imo

Or because his highlight tapes are nothing more than him running in a straight line past defenders. No upfield cuts, lack of shiftiness, and limited yards after contact. He's a fast guy that runs past slow kids. It doesn't work like that in the SEC.

Same thing people were saying about Jalen Hurd last year.

so our coaching staff went out and got Vpearson and Malone and were kicking ourselves that they didnt land Xavier Hawkins

is this serious?

I never suggested that we should've taken Hawkins. I think he'll do well at Oregon St. but I prefer all of our '14 WR signees over him.

What I was alluding to is that some apparently believe Cottrell's current lack of major offers is proof that he won't get one later, which is a pretty foolish assumption.

In my OP you were replying to I never said his lack of offers will be the reason he wouldn't end up with an offer. I'm sure Cottrell will get his shot...I hope he does. It just won't be on scholarship at UT unless A LOT of things go way wrong. I think it's pretty foolish to assume that everyone who thinks he won't be offered only thinks so because of a lack of offers and/or being from east TN.

Cottrell and Hawkins have received a grand total of 0 SEC offers and 1 BCS offer.

True.

Where is the "sufficient evidence to suggest that he may be SEC/UT material?"

The operative word is "may," but the evidence is his incredible athleticism & speed and on-the-field production. He's proved that he's one of the fastest prep football players in the nation, and that alone warrants him as one to watch.

No one is dismissing him because he is from East Tennessee. Jones has offered several East Tennessee prospects. People are dismissing him because he doesn't look overly impressive on film and he has gotten no interest from higher-level BCS or SEC schools.

Some have been dismissive of Cottrell simply because they question West's level of competition.

And for a player who "doesn't look overly impressive on film," how is that he averaged almost 15 YPC? Was it all sleight of foot? Maybe if he had better field vision & flashier juke steps, he would've averaged 20 YPC.

Look, I brought up Cottrell's name originally because at least on paper, he's an intriguing prospect and someone who bears watching his senior year. I've never said that we should offer him and I'll be pleasantly surprised if we do. But nobody in the forum is prescient enough to know for sure that we shouldn't offer him.

You offically have been banned from talking about football forever. Thank comment should be grounds for dismal not only from this board but from any UT sporting event for the remainder of Jalen Hurd's stay on Rocky Top. You compared a 5* recruit who had offers from EVERY SEC school, Army All-American, and at this point last year could pick where he wanted to go to Cottrell. Cottrell is waiting on his first offer a D1 offer and hoping UT will give him an offer. We were hoping Jalen would come to us! :eek:lol:

Seems to be a vendetta against all positive thoughts on Cottrell lol, but whatever, none of us are coaches. Our coaches are sure to be diligent to pick who they think are the best players for UT.

This thread is killing me. When this guy is a top 150 player. These "experts" will be saying how we should have been in on him to whole time. Kid has it all speed, athleticism, production on the field. He has dominated every camp he has been to. What else do you guys want him to do?

He has a snowball's chance in hell of making the Top 150.

Get this crap out of here. You clearly never watched Hurd play. Hurd wasn't just wide open holes run untouched. Hurd made fools look silly and if you got in his way he ran you over. Hurd is the real freaking deal. Cottrell is nowhere near that talent level. Nothing special at all about his film. What position would he play at TN? He will never see field at RB. He isn't a Def player. You can only hope he would be a Wes Welker at slot which is a longshot.

People like to bring up blanc and young as justification for Cottrell but you also need to realize that at the elite level that butch recruits that those two likely wouldn't be vols if they were coming out now. Devrin possibly becomes he is so shifty and can make you miss in open field but blanc would have zero chance.

The funny thing none of us know how a High School kid will do in college.Hurd might not do a thing in college and Cottrell might be lights out.As fans all we can do is hope they live up to the hype.

What recruiting service do you work for? Maybe you should help UT out with your expert knowledge, and foresight. :salute:
We get you like the kid, but the same can be said to you. What recruiting site do you work for to say he will be that good? Maybe you should help UT out.

It's a message board. We get you're related or whatever. Don't take things too much to heart from posters on here.

Emmanuel Moseley was a 2* and his only offer was Charlotte when the UT coaches decided to take him. He ended up with 0 other SEC offers and only 1 ACC offer. Curious to see how this one plays out.

4.35 LASER timed 40, fastest in the country. 132.72 SPARQ second in the country. 131 carries for 1,922 yards (14.7 ypc) & 22 TDs, 16 catches for 289 yards & 4 TDs, 13 KO returns for 601 yards & 3 TDs, 1 punt return for a TD.

Can you find one player that can match all that in the entire country? Now what do you have to dispute that? :hi:
