'15 TN ATH Jocquez Bruce (UT commit 6/17/14)

Every time he cleanly fields a punt he makes a positive impact. Clearly you are a short term Vol fan and don't remember all the guys before DY where it was an adventure to cleanly field the ball.

Sorry, I guess I'm crazy for wanting someone who actually makes positive yardage returning a punt.

Young was actually one of the better returners on paper last year. If you're talking numbers, which I'm pretty sure you are, then your argument is null, void, and stupid.

Do some research before you try and act like you know what you're talking about.

I'm talking about being a threat to return a kick for a TD, which he is not. See, you can have a discussion without trying to be insulting.

DY actually was close to breaking a few returns for a TD last year. Reminds me of Eric Parker.

Can't wait to have a true home run threat back at KR/PR in the mold of a Brandon James/Holliday. That ll be fun to watch.

Don't understand all this talk of "he's not a take" etc...

If a guy shows up to your camp, balls out and excels at everything he does. Or would you say "Well he only has offers from Memphis, I don't know...." You sign him point blank.

Sorry if already been asked but does this most likely mean jaylond woods is no longer in the picture.

If I had to put money on it, I would say Yes. He did just post a picture from a visit a couple days ago mentioning "his future head coach" and it was a pic of him and CBJ. Maybe if he gets his "issues" in order, CBJ will honor the offer/commitment.

Given the limited number of ships it does not add up for me. The #28 rated prospect with offers from MTSU and Memphis. It isn't going to kill the class but it isn't the kind of recruit taking us back to the promised land. Of course you can always say every rating service is incorrect or ratings don't matter.....

Or the coaches from the University of Tennessee saw this young man show out at one of their camps. They then decided to offer him a committable scholarship. I'm thinking that this means the Tennessee coaches saw a football player they wanted to offer a scholarship to. They did not apparently go by all the rating and ranking services or his offer list to decide.

This young man has accepted a scholarship offer to play for the University of Tennessee. As a diehard Volunteer fan, I am now a big fan of this future Tennessee football player.

This is one of those situations where it would have been funny to see it play out. Someone comes into this thread 2 weeks ago and says Jocquez Bruce will be the 2nd WR in the class and Van Jefferson is a pass. The ripping would have been quite the spectacle. Just goes to show that the *'s are not at all an accurate depiction of UTs actual recruiting board.

You're just mad because you're a Cottrell fanboy. You get off every time you hear his name.

yet another poster without even an ounce of class.

And in the other thread I dared to remark that Cottrell had 4.3 forty vs a 4.5...... and the only responses were from posters such as you was that said "well CBJ offered him so that's good enough" so how dare anyone question Jones who apparently hung the moon.

But I digress again, you have no class whatsoever.

Probably because you are A. bad at math, or B. have no clue how to evaluate prospects for a system that is run by our head coach.

Do us all a favor and post less. Please.

You don't have to be a math genius to see the number 28 beside his state ranking. Think about that for a minute..27 better players in Tenn. Is he flying under the radar to the extent that every other SEC team simply overlooked him......I doubt it. I hope he becomes an AA but I am just saying why offer ths player so early with bigger fish out there to be had.

Look up our longest punt return last year.

Spoiler: it was just barely enough for a 1st down.

DY ranks 4th ALL TIME at UT for KO return yards. He ranks 5th ALL TIME for KO/PR yards. 4th on that list is Stanley Morgan. DY has accounted for about 1800 yards in his time at UT. I'd imagine his development has been slowed a bit flip flopping between RB/WR/and back again. IMO the kid is doing just fine.

Number 28 according to who? Are the recruiting services the end all be all of evaluating players? This kid could be the best to ever wear orange. And with his hard work and no fear attitude, I wish we had 84 others just like him.

Folks put way too much stock in what random services rate these kids. 247 is notorious IMO for it. A kid can literally be unranked, no offers, and nothing at all on his profile, not even a picture. He commits to Bama, USC, or another big time program and he is literally a high 3* low 4* overnight. That's all I needed to see when it came to recruiting services and it's happened time and time again.

Exactly. :hi:

Why do people hate DY so much? It's not like he is some punk kid. He is a speciality player. Returner and pretty solid one. He just can't stay healthy enough to find a role. He shows flashes of potential then usually breaks his hand somehow. It's not a reason to hate the guy

Volnation.

Where 3 year starters, true freshmen - junior, are wasted scholarships

For 3 years, DY has been viewed as our best return option, or at worst, used to protect our other skill players at dangerously thin positions. Probably the latter, but good grief... He has served his purpose well

It also didn't help that his 1st 2 years he played under the Dooley regime that would slow anyones development.

That number is skewed because our defense has been historically bad From Dooley's time here and beyond. If the other team is scoring 6 or 7 TDs a game, it stands to reason that Devrin has had a lot more opportunities.

The same people who rank Alabama's class #1 each year. I guess it is just a coincidence that they also compete for a national title every year. If there is no credence to recruiting rankings then why were we excited about UT's class this year. Why we we disappointed with Dooley's recruiting.....that was lowly rated by the services? Which correlated with horrible on field results. Rankings matter, enough said.

This is a very valid point.

Rankings matter until they hit the field. 5* will not help a player execute. I'm not saying rankings don't matter. They are a cool tool but do they miss some? They also hit on many. I myself am going to trust the man getting paid millions and whose ass is on the line every year before I do a recruit ranking paid service. Just me though.

My point was that when we first offered Pearson he was unranked and we were his only offer. It was after we offered he blew up and was named the #2 JUCO WR.

Kinda like that guy , what's his name ? Patterson , from Feather River CC . I think CBJ is a very good judge of talent and perhaps , just as important, character.
