'15 NM QB Zach Gentry

QB's tend to pull the trigger early to claim their spot. Maybe he does something by this summer.

When you consider that he lives in the middle of nowhere from a recruting perspective, 2,000 miles away, and they've been to see him this many times, it's obvious he is the top QB target for 2015.

Would be awesome if he would commit before summer. You'd think the pull to commit to someplace in TX or closer to home in AZ would be strong, though.

Gentry picked up an offer from Tennessee in December and quickly has become one of its top priorities at the quarterback position. He said Vols offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian checked on him three times during the contact period, and Jones accompanied Bajakian on his most recent trip to New Mexico. UT appears to be high on his list as one of only a few major-conference programs pursuing him, and he has discussed visiting the Vols in the spring.

ZACH GENTRY QB, 6-6/230, ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.

REASON FOR THE RANKING: One of the biggest quarterbacks in the class of 2015, Gentry is a legit 6-6 and pushing 230-pounds. Gentry has a big arm and throws an accurate ball and his arm strength is only going to grow once he works on his mechanics. While not a burner, Gentry isn't a statue in the pocket and shows the ability to get out of the pocket and make a play with his long legs.

THE SKINNY: Gentry has taken an early interest in him as the Vols have logged the miles to see him. Tennessee has already visited the quarterback three times, including having coach Butch Jones travel to see him in New Mexico and that made a big early impression. Gentry hopes to see the Vols over his spring break in order to get a better feel for Tennessee. Other teams are starting to jump on board with Gentry as Oklahoma State recently offered.

I think this is our guy. It sounds like the staff has really put the effort in to go see him early and Gentry is impressed by that. I say we will have a QB sooner rather than later.

I hope we get Gentry and Agnew. Butch does like to take two quarterbacks per class.

Gentry for talent and Agnew is a great QB with UT legacy.

At Southlake you also learn the value of working hard at learning the system and waiting patiently for your opportunity. Worked out well for Chase Daniel at Missouri and Greg McElroy at Bama.

"I've been in a lot more contact with Northwestern before the offer happened," Gentry said. "I hadn't really talked to TCU a whole lot before they offered, so I'm still in a gray area with those guys until I figured things out. I'm still getting to know the coaches at both of those programs, really."

The next step will be unofficial visits, but those aren't being thrown together quickly either. Gentry is moving through the process at his own pace. This is his choice to make, and he intends to do it on his own timetable.

"We haven't thought much about visits yet," he said. "I'm still trying to talk to my dad about that stuff and figure it out." Gentry holds offers from Tennessee, San Diego State, Louisville, New Mexico, New Mexico State and Oklahoma State in addition to his recent invites from TCU and Northwestern. He names no favorites in the process at this juncture.

I'm hoping for Stidham or Gibson, but would welcome this guy
I like Gentry better. He has the combination of height, arm strength and mobility that is VERY rare. Most are lacking in one or more of those areas. Shorter QB's have to try and find lanes inside the pocket, to throw through. Not a concern when you are 6'6"+.

I think Gibson fits CBJ's offense the best (but Gentry is right there, too)...and if you mix in his ability to run like a 5*RB along with Hurd and the WR's we have....that's a nasty thought. That is, if you happen to be Nick Saban. :)

I think Gentry is a top 7-8 type QB for 2015. I don't think he is in the top 5 honestly. Would be a very good get for UT though with our QB situation what it is.

I do think if they miss on Gentry/he wants to let the recruiting process play out through his HS season, the UT coaches will be in scramble mode to try and find other options.

I suspect CBJ and Bajakian have put the full court press on him this early, knowing he'll start to draw a lot of attention once he starts getting into all these Summer camps.

They want to avoid having to get in line for the Top 5 type of guys. And to be honest, there seems to be a lot of misses in these rankings. Blake Bell being one of them. He was a one of the top 3 or so, in the country. Matt Barkley wasn't the college star most thought he would be, nor have any of the USC QB's, lately.
