'15 NM QB Zach Gentry

Now, the coaches will be hitting the road hard this week as Jones and Mike Bajakian will begin the week Monday in New Mexico to check in on quarterback Zach Gentry.

I would really love for us to get both Gentry and Gibson in the fold for 2015, since there's a good shot Gibson gets moved to WR. Gentry looks really good on film and Ainge is very high on him.

Nice change of pace to start converting a highly rated recruit to another position BEFORE he even commits.:ermm: Get him watching Calvin Johnson tapes before we GET THAT VERBAL :aggressive:

I didn't realize he moved as well as he does. Looks like a great prospect, it'd be nice to seal up a verbal for our 2015 QB.

On Monday, Butch Jones and Mike Bajakian were in New Mexico to start off the day to check in on quarterback Zach Gentry. Gentry told Volquest.com on Monday night that the first college head coach to check him out wasn't someone from the West Coast, instead it was Jones making the cross-country flight to see him in the morning. It definitely was not lost on Gentry and he hopes to repay the visit to see the Vols' Orange and White Game in April. We will have a story on that tomorrow as well. -VQ

From Gentry's point of view, what is not to like about UT?

He'll most likely redshirt his Fr year. Then he has guys like Malone, Preston, Helm, Hurd, and Scott.

The job could be his for 3 straight years.

"That was awesome. I like him a lot. He's a good guy. Everyone there was asking about the guy in the bright orange jacket," Gentry said. "It means a lot. Not too often a coach will fly into El Paso (Texas) and then drive an hour to Las Cruces, N.M., to watch a basketball game, especially when it was two days after the dead period ended."

Then, on Monday, Bajakian returned to New Mexico but this time brought with him Tennessee head coach Butch Jones. "I think it is a big deal because he's still trying to clean up and get all of the 2014 guys recruited and worrying about that class and coach Jake has already come to see me three times and that means a lot to me, too," Gentry explained. "That means a lot because they are investing a lot of time and energy in me."

"Actually, the last few weeks I've been doing more research recruiting-wise and I didn't know until just last week how many athletes UT is bringing in for these next few years. They have a really high ranking class coming in these next two years," Gentry said. "I think that's something I've really looked into, especially at UT because I heard about all those guys that are committing early in 2015. You have a ton of athleticism coming in on the outside and that's something that really excites a quarterback."

Another huge benefit to locking in most if not all of your recruiting class early, is being able to focus more time on the NEXT class.

Coaches doing serious work.

I agree. It is amazing how strategic and well thought out ALL of CBJ's moves are. Say what you want about "Gruden", but Butch Jones was/is the right man for the Tennessee job.

I think we land a big time QB in this class early and it could just get nasty - depth will certainly be better in the 2014 class but I think we will get some really elite guys in 2015 - completely remake this roster in only 2 years

quite a feat

I really have a feeling if they can indeed get him on campus in the spring we may have our '15 QB in the fold early. Which would be absolutely huge for the '15 class going forward.

I think Gibson, Stidham, Lock, and Gentry are probably the Top 4 QB targets. Getting any one of those 4 would be HUGE for the '15 class.

It is starting to seem that way. Gentry is probably their best shot right now as well. You have to think Stidham and Lock are big-time longshots since they almost seem to be locks for other schools. And who knows with Gibson. Getting anyone out of Florida is a huge chore.

We have to factor in "winning" as well. Tennessee needs a bowl birth, AND a win to maintain momentum on the recruiting trail for the 2015 class. That's a fact Jack!

Arizona State is going to be a tough battle all the way to signing day 2015 even if we get him. Think opposite of Dobbs situation.

I think Gibson is a QB all the way and will be absolutely electric running the read option.

Gentry looks very good too though, and our staff seems to be putting the full-court press on him right now.

Agree on Gibson. Definitely a QB at the next level.
