'15 NC RB Rocky Reid (Wake Forest commit)

It's actually a valid point. Should have held off on taking this commitment. To get back to championship form we need backs with 5 stars not 3. You don't dominate and win with 3 star backs. You don't see bama, Uga, USC signing 3 star backs.

Ray Rice, Doug Martin, LeVeon Bell, Alfred Morris, and Shonn Greene say, "Hello from the NFL."

Just to name a few former 3 stars or lower.

If he has a good summer at camps and another year like he had this year he won't be a 3 star for long. Also his bad 40 time could be a product of a bad start, poor running form, or a number of other things. You guys are worried about things you can teach a kid to do. This staff is VERY GOOD dang near GREAT at evaluating talent and that's because they have a long background at smaller schools and know how to develop those players. Yeah he's not a 5 star guy like Bama gets but Saban can't evaluate talent like Butch & Co. does

I am amazed at posters that say they like the coaching staff, and then totally nullify it by not respecting their recruiting knowledge and track record.

Dudes - the staff just delivered a top five recruiting class after several losing seasons. Lighten up. Look what happened with Moseley. Same deal.

Our recent history of recruiting players that didn't live up to the hype might have something to do with that (not specifically with THIS staff but just in general). Excuse my skepticism.

IMO this kid is a "Cincinatti" level recruit. Not an SEC level RB.

Butch had Pead and RDAIII at Cincy. Wouldn't mind that level of RB.

The star gazing in this thread makes me sick. Rocky is a straight up beast. You think Butch would have taken his commitment if he wasn't?

You never know how this kid will end up ranked, he might get bumped to a 4 star or maybe a 5 star if he has a monster senior year and gets many more offers. Not saying it will happen but just going off stars in April isn't smart.

Todd Gurley was a 3 star RB from NC in April of his junior season as well, he ended up a top 50 player nationally.

Not sure if he could top what he did last year. His stats were absolutely incredible!

Personally I think this kid is a great get and will be a big time contributor. Of course like those that question our coaches on why they would sign a 3 star back with offers from Wisconsin and Arkansas (do they know running backs Im not sure?) none of us know what the future holds for a Junior in high school.
But Butch knows more than you, always remember that.

Nope, but I lost a couple of points off my IQ trying to read your senseless argument.

Senseless argument? You and everyone else destroying me would be happier and much more satisfied if this kid was a 5 star. And you would also be much happier if we signed Love and Swinney, for example, instead of Reid. Or am I wrong? I like to pull up the commit list for UT on the sites and see 4 and 5s not 3s. It looks better and makes our team better.

We were never going to get Love and Swinney in the same class. Reid and Love is a pretty decent possibility though. Any Vol fan should absolutely thrilled with that haul. And no, 4 and 5 *s do not automatically make our team better. I'll give it to you that it looks better though.

What's senseless is your star argument when we are talking about a kid who is STILL a junior in high school. Maybe we should see how his senior season goes and what his ranking is then. This staff takes kids based on potential not stars. If he ends his high school career as a 3 star, then you can complain all the way to the marijuana dispensary.

Kid reminds me of Alfred Morris, who ran a 4.67 at the combine. Pretty sure Morris has had 3k rushing yards in 2 NFL seasons. 4.67 fourty in the fastest league on Earth = 3k rushing in 2 years... 40 only paints a small part of the picture

You gotta keep in mind who puts out stars. Stars reflect special interests more than true talent. They don't know how to evaluate talent. You'd be stupid to believe them.

Haha you are like the 5th poster that has referenced weed just cuz I live in CO. I don't smoke by the way. I think it should be a felony if caught with any amount and automatic jail time. And yes I know that he could get a bump, I hope he does.

Well then I definitely dismiss your opinion about anything. Good day sir.

You're not wrong. But it is what it is. This coaching staff has us flying towards national relevance. They are finally selling Tennessee football as the monumental, successful empire that we all see it as... and people (recruits) are starting to believe it.

I agree that it would be super neat if he was a 5 star recruit. Duh. That's pretty damn obvious. We would be booming all over the place. But the reality is, that wouldn't make him any more of a sure thing. At this point, I think our staff has earned the benefit of the doubt to take players that they like. They evaluate each and every prospect a certain way, and if that prospect doesn't fit their high standards then he doesn't get to commit. Bottom line.

We aren't sitting in high school parking lots handing out scholarships to 3 stars just so we can fill up our class. Get real. This ain't the Dooley years.

And also I think he looks a little slow on film for a running back. But he looks like a good football player so I'm down and I bet we can use him.

What makes him a Cincy type recruit? Not trying to be a smarta$$; this is a legitimate question.
