Griffin talked to the media:

GRIFFIN: It's been a blessing to be able to live out my dream of playing at at big school here.

GRIFFIN: I planned to enroll early wherever I was going to get bigger and contribute as a freshman.

GRIFFIN: The DBs have really embraced me and helped me feel like a part of the family.

GRIFFIN: The staff is building a program. The players have bought into the system and I wanted to be a part of it.

"Stephen Griffin said it was like being back home. He once lived in Knoxville and likes being back. He said Cam Sutton and Todd Kelly have taken him under his wings. He and Kelly went to preschool together."

We could have really used him at one point, but then he had that crazy calf problem that I think might have ended up being blood clots.

Correct. He was intentionally rsdshirted last year despite being healthy. If coaches didn't think he could contribute they'd have played him sparingly, expired his eligibility and opened up the roster spot.
He should be able to step into a role next year.
Definitely will add needed depth.

This dude will be the surprise in the 15 class. Imo

Has fantastic recovery speed for his size. Safety all the way.

Griffin and family. We might have another legacy soon.

Funny cause Stephen was a Clemson legacy. Dad played at Clemson.

Not all legacies are automatic. Butch is doing work here at UT. Bates, KM, TKjr wouldn't be here if Coach Jones didn't make them believe.

Apparently Stephen and TKjr went to preschool together and also played football together went they were young kids. He mentioned Clemson was his dream school (also his father played there) but he knew he wanted to take visits and evaluate the process, so that's how he knew "Tennessee was the better place". “The coaches, the players, the atmosphere … everything,” he said. “I love it here. I used to live here when I was younger, so it was kind of like coming home.”

True. Ezekiel Elliot's parents were BOTH scholarship athletes at Mizzou and he went to Ohio St. Bet it caused Pinkel to take a nip after losing that one.

Per Hubbs

With the loss of LaDarrell McNeil, Todd Kelly Jr. steps in that role, but he will have to fight off Evan Berry who pushed him in the spring. Both have had solid camps and both will play at safety. The staff will be happy to get Stephen Griffin back on Monday. Griffin was playing well before the injury and could very much be needed on special teams as a great number of this freshman class look to play next Saturday in Nashville.
