'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

Cecil has the attitude that the team has been missing for years. I mean he's a high school junior with the attitude of an upperclassmen at college.

But it was known that a Texas offer would be a game changer all along. Not comparable situations if you ask me. This kid is ALL VOL so quit with the DS BS. OH, and DS isnt half the LB that Cherry is. Just saying.

I sure am glad someone put you in charge. Oh wait.....

This dude reads the play, gets there, and spears whatevers got the ball. No wasted movement. He gets off blocks with ease while focus stays on ball carrier. Al Wilson type.

JMO, but Cecil's height will be the biggest factor if he doesn't get a high ranking

Height, listed 40 (SPARQ has it at 5.1 per his HUDL) and coverage could be the things holding him back (ratings wise). I dont care what the ratings say... this kid is a monster.

The slow 40 probably has more to do with him not knowing how to run one. He's a pure football player with no track background. It'll probably improve with training.

agreed, but i think the analyst seeing a 5.1 40 might hold back his ranking some. (rankings that get released this week)

Cherry is a very good ILB. We like his ability to close and he does most of his damage in the short box on inside blitzes. He is not a top 100 player right now as we have some questions about his speed, but stay tuned for him over the coming days.

-Kynon Codrington, Rivals

Sounds like he'll be in the top 250 tomorrow or just outside as a 4 star on Wednesday.

I would love to see Cecil play some fullback for us, ESP when it's 4th and 1 and we really need someone to blow open a hole for Hurd

If our coaches took his commitment a year in advance after preaching all season that we have to increase our team speed, I'm not too worried about his speed.

Even if he isn't the fastest LB ever, he'll still be wrecking **** when you're LB stable is full of guys with great lateral quickness like Bates, Johnson, Bryant, and Weatherd by his sides. Add in a heatseeker like Gaulden or TK at S for run support, and some DE's that can set the edge like Hendrix. When you have guys that can play in space all over the field, Cecil will be free to come downhill and lay the wood.

Yeah, I doubt we'll need him to be able to go sideline to sideline as much as we've been asking AJ to do. There will be LOTS more speed around him.

Burfict ran a 4.9 at the combine.

He is handling business in the NFL.

Cecil is fast enough and his instincts, reaction time, and his disregard for the ball carriers well being will allow him to make the rest up

Hopefully we'll be able to sub someone in for obvious passing situations too. There's no one behind AJ that has any business on an SEC field.

*This is assuming CC has speed issues, which I disagree with. Just learn how to run that 40 and hell get bumped, no worries.

I hope his 40 time doesn't improve, heck I hope every school thinks he is too slow for them. I don't think CBJ will be asking him to run too many fly patterns, so his 40 time is no concern to me . Who really cares what his ratings are. If you watch his film and think he's too slow to play, then you really have no clue.

JRM will be one. There will be plenty to choose from for the other spot in the nickel on passing downs.

I argued the same thing earlier this year and was told MLB don't come out on nickel packages? Bama does it, along with many other teams, and their D seams ok. So, I agree that JRM and others will be back there on nickel coverages. I'm really excited to see Justin King back there, and I hope he can play both MLB and SLB. I'd like to see a line up of this on nickel packages:

SDE: Hendrix/Vereen
DT: Owen
NT: Carr
WDE/LEO: Maggit- I want more standing up sets to keep teams guessing if we are blitzing Maggit or putting him back in coverage. I want some creativity.

OLB: JRM
OLB: King/Weatherd

CB: R. Jones/Foreman
CB: Sutton
FS: Randolph
SS: TKJR/L. Johnson
Nickel CB: Payne

I mean I honestly don't track it all that closely with other teams, but it would make sense to put your best coverage LBs in on passing downs if it's possible.

I agree that Maggitt has the potential to be really versatile in this defense. Jancek likes to bring LBs and drop DEs, and Maggitt will be better suited for that than anyone else on the roster. Also he gets after it when he does rush the QB.
