I liked the fan base, and I loved it[.] I pictured myself playing in there. Ive never seen a stadium with it being that loud, even though the team was down. I imagined myself and other players that are committed there coming in there and making a change, Cherry said. And I saw that Coach Butch really cares about me. Before the game I got to talk to him, and its just how all the fan base and everybody knew me when I was going around there. I just need to work on a little more game so I can come in there and do what I have to do.
I liked the Vol Walk, Cherry said. I got there in enough time to do everything. I talked to Coach Butch before the game. He sat me down in an office, and he told me I made his week when I came or whatever.
I just liked how Coach Jones, he just seemed hyped, man. Hes a different coach. He met me before the game me and a running back, D.J. Law, from down here (in Florida) and he kept it simple. He dont promise you nothing. He dont tell you, oh, this and that. He shows you, and its the truth, and its why weve got so many people building up. Everybody wants to compete for a spot. He dont promise you nothing.
Coach Butch told me in his office that everybodys having fun right now, but in two years whats going to happen? And I said, Coach, they can have fun right now, and they can have fun next year. In two years, were going to be number one, on top.
The thing about the future players, we see that they need more depth and more people like Cordarrelle Patterson or (Justin) Hunter was. They wanted the ball, and they owned the field. Thats what youve got to have: people that (say), Ill go out there and Ill own the field not with a big head to go out there and say, Im ready to play. Anybody you put in front of me, Im going to knock them over.
