'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

He said in his interview that he "knows he has his mind made up, but if blah blah blah." I hope that's the troof.. cause this guy could play for us RIGHT NOW.

Gonna be interesting to see how the LB position battles turn out next year. Esp if AJ and Maggit return, which seems more and more likely.

Wonder if they would be moved to DE? Maggit most likely and AJ would remain at MLB unless Weatherd takes his place.

Dews, Bryant, Bates, and Mouhon would definitely contribute immediately on ST.
Our numbers at LB are to low.

Pay for college players: Four-star SEC commits weigh in | Saturday Down South

Notable comment:

Auburn commit DeShaun Davis and Tennessee commit Cecil Cherry had similar feelings about the issue.

“Me? I really don’t do it for all that,” Davis told SDS. “I just love the game of football. Of course, the money will be a bonus and if it’s legal I’m all for it. Yeah, a couple dollars wouldn’t hurt for a college athlete.”

Cherry was a bit more blunt.

“I just love the game,” Cherry told SDS. “No one’s got to give me money to hit nobody.”

Can we start the countdown till this kid is in Orange already, please??

A kid gets 3 tKs to any game on an unofficial visit.

During an OV they get transportation, tKs, meals, entertainment, and lodging for free.

Very different from weatherd. I was upset because the kid said no more visits and then a day later it was reported he changed his mind. My problem was what appeared to be a lapse in truthfulness

My opinion was more on Mom as an aTm grad wanting to get the royal treatment at her alma mater. Her son realizing what he could give his Mom, huge gift that is already paid for. Tell me which VFL does not want to take care of Mom? :)

Hahaha love it! This guy is awesome.

I can't think of any film I like watching more than Cherry's. He has better form than any LB on the roster. He is going to make Al Wilson proud.

We need him to be an EE next year...he already has the body if a college LB and a whole semester of learning his position and the schemes would have him ready to make some contributions immediately.

Anybody a little bit worried that he's visiting all these schools? We really need this kid on defense.

No, he's a JR in high school with an opportunity to travel the nation and visit different universities, and girls.

This staff can recruit, I'm not going to start worrying about recruits jumping ship until it happens

Lee and Powell are no longer Vol commitments.

Lee decommitted after visiting here. Did Powell visit Miami before decommitting or was it just the offer that caused it.

Both situations are completely different than Cherry, IMO. Nevermind the fact that he is cousins with Tony Thompson, so does that make him a legacy?

This kid's instincts, toughness, pursuit, block shedding, and HIT POWER are second to none! Man his highlights get the blood pumping! I'm ready to go work out or maybe pick a fight!

Powell visited I believe on a Saturday and Sunday during Fall practice. He committed to the Miami coaches on the following Monday. Then he called Butch and staff to let them know.

He also had a throwing session with Michael Irvin, which probably had a lot to do with it.

Not worried in the slightest about Cherry. He will be one of the all time great Vols when its said and done, IMO.

And Wolf took a visit to Bama and is still committed as ever...

...but never mind that, in recruiting committed kids never take visits so we should go ahead and begin to evacuate the board due to the inevitable meltdown that will ensue when he flips.

You also failed to mention that Lee never took a visit to another school and his decommitment was a mutual decision from both parties. Poor example.

The poster I was responding to said he was not going to worry about us losing any recruits until we had recruits jump ship. Lee and Powell were my examples and fit the bill quite well as they were UT commits and now are UT de-commits. I feel confident Cherry is a Vol come signing day 2015. Would I have taken his commitment this early with him planning to take a lot of trips elsewhere? No I would not have. After he is done having his fun, I would then take his commitment. As a coach I would not ask Weatherd to not go to a&m and then be cool with Cecil taking visits all over the country. JMO

just watched highlights of his first 3 games....I laughed at the last block. That poor kid he hit probably gave up football.

Didn't see anyone gain a single yard after contact.

Just a thought process but here it is:

A man in a committed relationship goes to a bar or gentleman's club. He is going to enjoy himself and see the sights but in the back of his mind he knows he is committed.

I know that not all men honor those commitments but if you aren't committed in the first place it is a lot easier to fool around and make a commitment somewhere else. I could be wrong but I think for a lot of kids the commitment is still a serious thing that they honor.

As soon as this kid is photographed in a UT uniform from a visit, it will become my new avatar. I really like players with this mentality (which is why I liked Dalton Santos).

In years past, it was expected that our commitments would visit elsewhere and "have a good time". I think times are changing and so is recruiting. More and more schools are pushing kids to NOT visit after a commitment. If the coaches are going to ask Weatherd or any other recruit to not visit elsewhere, I think that should go for all commitments. It has to be even across the board or it could prove to be a bad way of doing things. JMO
