'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4WO0mirjlQ

I'm extremely glad Cherry ended up going to Texas and not Tennessee. His true colors showed when he was still committed to Tennessee, but he was blasting the University, football program and was saying how Texas was just SOOOOOO much better.

Never thought I'd ever see a player act like he did towards a school he was currently committed to.

Do you seriously think he was committed and making those comments? The staff had already told him his spot had been taken by Kirkland. He was trying to save face.

Obviously we don't know exactly what went on behind the scenes but we didn't go all in on Kirkland until Cherry scheduled an OV to Texas. Kirkland kind of eluded to that in one of his comments after he decommited from Michigan. Now I think we had Kirkland higher on the board originally and maybe we still would've went all in on him and cut Cherry lose but IDK. In any case it worked out and Cherry has no one to blame but himself.

Edit:Here was Kirkland's comments.
"About a month ago, we had been talking for a long time, but about a month and a half ago I reached out to them and let them know about my situation and they were very excited about it but numbers-wise it just wasn't working out," Kirkland Jr. explained. "But, after a couple of weeks went by and they figured some things out they are excited about me and want me to be a Vol."

He has been granted his release, and his dad said he should of came to the real UT. My question to you guys is would you take him?

Thigpen told Cherry point blank that they were no longer going to hold his spot if he took the Texas visit knowing in the back of his mind that he had Kirkland in his back pocket.

No. We already have a logjam at middle linebacker....most of which, if not all, are more athletic guys who run better and fit our defensive scheme better. He chose to look around when we told him not to, we cut him loose and upgraded with DKJr....ship has sailed IMO.

Probably asking for trouble even extending him an offer to come here now. Leave the past there and learn that he may be a bit shaky as far as commitment to a team.

We don't have to cherry pick for LB's any more

His dad need to take him out for an ice cream to make him feel better but he can't get any sprinkles because "sprinkles are for winners".

If you think he makes this team better then sure. I highly doubt it though given everything we're aware of now. I would need to have a real good idea of what happened at Texas.
