'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

This is one part of the recruiting gig that most never see. It's a massive dance sometimes and when one side missteps then gets arrogant about it and a better dancer becomes available.,,, well Mr. Cherry we really do wish you well ..,,

It is either a petty move or there's more to this than what meets the eye.

Sounds like one of (dare I invoke his name?) LV's numbers crunch victims. Possibly brought about by Cherry's Texas visit and Kirkland's renewed availability and interest in the real UT...........

I'm not throwing Cecil down the toilet like most on here. I thought he was a good player and sounded like he loved being a vol. But I do understand the game of recruiting and if he was forewarned about potentially losing his spot that is on him. Still wishing him a great career wherever he goes except when they play they Vols.

I loved how hard he hit. He will be a solid player where he goes.

If I had to guess Mr. Cherry was a bit put off by the UT staff telling him not to visit Texas. He said, "I am Cecil Cherry the Legacy and no one is going to tell me where I can't go". After he went, he lost his spot at Tennessee. Cecil said some things out of anger when I thought TX was ready to take him. A day or so later he realized TX was NOT ready to take him and now found himself in an odd spot. No room in Knoxville. TX slow playing him, and his twitter in shambles. Now he'll wait till NSD to announce something. If TX does not take him, I expect he'll sign with one of the smaller schools in FL.

Butch wants strong bricks in the foundation. We need all recruits to be about UT not about theirselves. Cherry might have been a good one but oh well we'll take the next man up.

He gonna be wishing he didnt take that visit to tx….hope kirk jr waves at the camera and says thanks for the spot cherry. #GBO. :hi:

Timeline went something like this...

Cecil call to Thig... "Hey coach, I been thinkin bout takin a trip...just for fun ya know? Might go down to Texas n have some fun on their dime. No worries though."

Thig to Cecil... "Yeah okay, you know what... that might be a good idea. You go ahead. I'll talk at you later."

Cecil... "unnh well now wait a sec..."

Thig... "click"

Thig calls Kirkland... "Hey Kirk, This is Coach Thigpen... are you in?"

Kirkland to Thig... "brick by brick coach."

Kirkland shuts down his trips.

Thig calls Cecil... "Hey Cecil, you might wanna check out the latest tweets today on VolNation."

Cecil "officially" decommits.

Respectfully, he never was officially a Vol. I would have liked to see him suit up and play for us but as we all know recruiting is fluid and in this case I trust CBJ & staff.

Why would a coach get mad over one of his committed recruits taking a visit to another school? Lots of recruits use up all their visits even though they are committed to xyz school.

At TENNESSEE you either ALL IN or get the H@LL out, once you say you are coming to TENNESSEE, why take other visits, don't wont to hear that 17 or 18 year old S@IT, we are TENNESSEE EITHER YOU ARE WITH US OR AGAINST US.:lolabove:

Does anyone know which recruit in next year's class has dropped out or has changed his commitment? I noticed this morning TN now has 25 instead of 26.
