'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

I think Cherry might ought to stop waffling and reaffirm his commitment if he wants to be a Vol. I think the pieces are falling into place that he is replaced by Kirkland. Imo

His first mistake was the visit. if a staff is looking for ways to make numbers fit then you don't give them a reason to move on. He opened that door and the staff is pouncing on an upgrade as a replacement. Cherry is a big hitter but struggles in space which is becoming big as our schedule is usually more spread teams than pro style. Kirkland is more complete player.

We play Bama, UGA, and UF every year. I want players like Cherry. We've got Bryant and Bates next year as RS Fr. I don't think Jakob Johnson plays MLB, but I could be wrong. JRM and McDowell will play on the outside along with Maggitt. I'm all for getting Kirkland, but I'm not sure I'd do it at the expense of Cherry. I'd rather have both.

Hubbs and Fort said this morning he was on flip alert.

All of the sudden UT is one of the country's hottest teams and Texas (the "mini-me" of UTs) is trending downward. You'd have to wonder about a recruit's mind if he'd flip from us to them, especially if he's from Georgia.

Why did we recruit him at all then? Sure was a waste of time since all of a sudden he went from a sleeper 3* to a bum. Just because he's visiting other schools.

Don't know, good question. I thought everyone was in love with the kid and he was in love with UT. Now, all of a sudden, guys are flat out saying he's too slow to be a good fit for our defense. It's bizarre to me, just passing along what D. Lewis, R. Carringer and H. Kress said the other day about it.

I didn't say cherry would be the starter. I believe Dillon Bates will be the starter at mlb next year.

They will pay all of their athletes, in every sport, $10,000 a year but this will not happen until all litigation cases have been decided against the NCAA. If the NCAA wins any of the cases, all bets are off.

Not a bad ploy by Texas. They have all the money in the world down there.

This is a hear say story. But a few years ago a CPA friend and Texas grad told me for tax purposes they had to move 5% of their money in a tax shelter. The number wound up being in excess of 2 Billion dollars. If true that's just crazy.

I don't...I think Dillon is part of the rotation at both OLB spots.

that's the reason I think he's the starter at mlb. he knows both olb positions. he needs about ten more lbs.

I recall people saying he was a student of the game. I'm sure that he'll know the playbook and be ready to call plays for the def. next year. jmo...

Yeah he is an outside linebacker. I think it will be Jakob Johnson or Gavin Bryant.

Correct.

Dillion is a Will and Sam; every down LB. All the talk on this thread is about a run stopping Mike in Cherry. If there is one LB that doesn't fit in in this D it is probably him. JJ and Gavin are the type of Mikes that can also play in space in the nickel. Will see how it plays out.

this is how I see it playing out next year. sslb- curt and chris weatherd. wslb jrm and cortez McDowell or Elliot berry. Ilb Dillon bates and jakob Johnson or gavin Bryant.

with curt and jrm on the field starting at both olb spots. you find a way to get Dillon bates on the field. he was getting playing time over both jakob and gavin. and, I think they are going smaller at the will position and weatherd will be next in line at sam. so, what do you do with a guy that was getting regular playing time before he got hurt. you put your best three lbs on the field.

bates needs and will put on enough weight to shed blocks and be a run stuffer. he has the speed to cover.he will know the def. and be able to call the def. from mlb position.

To be fair, people have been questioning his speed from day one.

Ah. I think Bates biggest strength would be pass coverage. Hope he sticks at OLB. I don't believe before his injury he was at 222 like the roster suggested either.

Bates is gonna make a heck of an OLB. Can't wait.

I dont think longhorns are trending downward. The coach cleaned house of all the trash. Many here bash that, but its the right move for 2 reasons. 1...Cuts out the cancers. 2...Opens roster spots for his guys. Texas will be back sooner (no pun intended) than you think. Many kids like that the coach wants to get rid of the chaos. The recruits who want to work will sign.
