'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

Report from IMG 7 on 7 National Championship...

"•Not an environment where Tennessee four-star linebacker commit Cecil Cherry would shine, as the Frostproof (Fla.) High talent prefers to do his work in pads, the future Vol did make a few plays as a mobile linebacker that also grabbed himself a pick six."

"Likes to do his work in pads" = "likes to kill people via tackling" haha. Thanks

He just tweeted woody wommack asking him to call him and to take a picture of him with Vol Gloves off twitter....somethings up here.....

Uh oh. This could be bad.

Why would he need to talk to Rivals ASAP and ask them to take a pic of him in Vols gear down? Could be that all is alright. Could be something's wrong.

I hope this isn't a bad sign. Really want to see this guy in orange.

Cecil is a hammer. His film is like watching a train wreck happen every play.I actually fear for the safety of some of the kids he's playing against.

Great! and yourself?

Excited about this '15 class that Butch and Co. is putting together.

I'm swell! Got promoted at work which means less time on here..

& I know! I'm still Hyped about the '14 class. Just read about Mosley gaining weight and Blair actually looking slimmer and in shape.
I hope Butch opens up some practices to the public this year.

Side note: I know someone's gonna be mad for us bumping this thread but it's okay. We're talking football and there is a article on 247 that I'd love to see.

“Coach*(Butch) Jones, we went and sat in his office for a good hour before the camp started. He was just telling me he can’t wait for me to get there and how much he cares about me. I met (with) a lot of people. Me and Coach Jones were just talking about how I’d fit the system, how I can make the team better and how I can be a leader.”

The 6-foot-2, 229-pound Cherry said he also spent plenty of time with some of Tennessee’s current players, including senior linebacker*A.J. Johnson, redshirt junior linebacker/defensive end*Curt Maggitt*and newcomersVic Wharton,*Jalen Hurd*and*Von Pearson.

“A.J. and Curt, they’re like my brothers,” Cherry said.

Cherry said he has continued to hear from a number of other teams in recent months, including Alabama, Arizona State, Southern California, Auburn, North Carolina State, Michigan State and LSU.

He admitted “there’s a possibility” he could visit a few other schools to give himself a chance to “go visit and meet new people.” He said he’s at least interested in taking official visits to Auburn, Alabama, Arizona State and USC in addition to Tennessee.

“I know I’m going to Oregon," Cherry said, "but I don’t know the rest."

Still, Cherry said he doesn’t envision himself changing his mind about playing at Tennessee, and he’s already looking forward to his future with the Vols.

“I like the rebuilding process, and I like how Coach Jones, he gets all the players to believe in each other, and we’re trying to building a bond,” said Cherry, who recently transferred to Victory Christian Academy from Frostproof (Fla.) High School. “Anybody can say they’re trying to build something, but Coach Jones is building for real. And he doesn’t just care about football.

“I can say I won’t change my mind. I’m not going to change it. I love the atmosphere (at Tennessee). I love how the city is. I love the fan base, and I love the coaching staff. I’m a Vol for life. I feel comfortable there. I’m really comfortable with it.”

Cherry, who’s planning to return to Tennessee for its home game against Florida on Oct. 4, said he’s currently focused on preparing for his upcoming senior season and the challenges that await him at the next level.

“I’m just trying to get quicker, faster and better hips so I can prepare to come up in the SEC and do what I have to do to lead the defense,” he said.

No one wants to hear a commit taking visits but I do like that some elite schools want Cecil. All Vol though. That guy loves him some Butch Jones.

"5. LB Cecil Cherry

Lakeland (Fla.) Victory Christian
Playing both running back and linebacker the Tennessee commit did his best to carry his team through pool play. Cherry has clearly worked on his speed this offseason and it's paying dividends, especially when he's playing in space. His future is definitely at linebacker, but back in the day he may have also been an ideal fit for a bowling ball-type fullback."

That last sentence is truth. With his instincts and love for violent physical hitting he would have been an incredible FB. That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the video of him taking snaps at RB in his film.
