'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

I've had a bunch on my plate recently. Haven't been able to keep up with recruiting the way I used to.
However, I talked to a good friend this morning about some current commits to TN. This guy said that Cherry has the ability to be an All SEC linebacker. He also said that he doesn't know Cherry personally, buy everyone he has talked to, says that CC is a high character guy.

Can't wait for this kid to be on campus and cracking skulls soon.

Just wondering what Cecil Cherry's speed is like compared to A.J. The beast? A.J is always around the ball and doesn't have great speed, he has good speed but great insticts. Anyone know the kind of speed Cherry has?

Cecil has been reported to be a little bit slow

Cecil has been reported to be a little bit slow

In some of his highlights, he is carring the ball on offense, and don't look too bad doing it as well. He isn't Evan Berry fast by no means, but looks like he moves pretty good thou!

He was a top performer at a Rivals camp over the summer...

Playing both running back and linebacker the Tennessee commit did his best to carry his team through pool play. Cherry has clearly worked on his speed this offseason and it's paying dividends, especially when he's playing in space. His future is definitely at linebacker, but back in the day he may have also been an ideal fit for a bowling ball-type fullback.

The Tennessee commit tested off the charts on Thursday, running a sub 4.8 40-yard dash, his fastest time in recent years. Cherry is a big-bodied middle linebacker, but with increased speed to go with this 6-foot, 214-pound frame, it's easy to see why Tennessee jumped on him so early in the process. Cherry said he plans on taking visits his fall, but remains solidly committed to the Vols.

Just watched his highlights again...he doesn't need to be any faster or he will knock himself out all the time. He flat lays the boom on every single play. I know that is his highlight reel, but look how many of them are on special teams and just blocking. He is an Absolute Animal!:yess:

Iam suprised he hasn't killed one of these high school kids yet.He is a absolute head buster on the field.

Those camp comments actually make me feel a lot better about Cherry. Sub 4.8 is plenty fast enough for a guy with his skillset and instincts.

Glad you posted those.

I thought that with the maturation of our young DE's, and the emergence of Weatherd on the outside, that Maggitt might be a candidate to move to MLB.

He certainly has the size, and sideline to sideline speed. He knows the defensive calls, is a leader, etcetera..

Could he play MLB if we needed him to?
