I'm not going to flame you but if you are going to throw irrational statements out then you should probably explain your reasoning behind them.
I don't think that he is agile enough to play in space, he will do fine against the run. He seems like an old school middle linebacker. I have read on hear for four years that AJ was to slow and he moves better than Cherry. I hope that I am wrong and he is as good as Al Wilson. All of this is of course IMO.
That's the difference.
I would be more than comfortable telling a great athlete that I want him to play his heart out and give his all for UT.
But clearly that's not manly enough for your over inflated ego.
I actually thought that was pretty funny.
Just messing with you anyway.
I just hope people realize the recruits today are very social media savy and do read these threads.
I would hope Cherry can handle one person thinking he'll be a bust.
Cherry, if you're reading this I do not agree with that person.
I hope so too, but if one is ever on the fence I think they prefer to be " shown some love" as Khalil likes to quote so often.
I apologize if I'm a bit critical, but recruiting is the key to our building process and building back. I'm probably a little paranoid about losing great athletes.
There was nothing mean-spirited about what he said though.
Personally I think his concerns are valid. At this point I think Cherry is a weapon on running downs, especially against teams like Georgia and Alabama who want to line up and run over you. Cherry helps shut that crap down. But how does he play against spread offenses who will make him run in space? Can he be effective in coverage as well? That will be the deciding factor in whether he's a package guy or a complete three-down monster.
Obviously I wish him nothing but the best and I want him to become that monster for us. For those feeling optimistic, AJ is a very good comp for what Cherry will have to do - he began his career as a run-stuffer who struggled when required to run or cover. He improved every year, shored up his weaknesses and has been immeasurably valuable for us this season. I hope we see the same growth from Cherry. I just don't think it's fair to expect it from him as a freshman (but would love him to prove me wrong!)
I can see how they would be legit concerns. Here's why I think he'll be fine though:
He won't have to cover as much space because we have legit talent surrounding him everywhere. His DL will be doing their job and keeping OL off of him to leave him free to make plays. AJ hasn't had the benefit of either of these until this year. Cherry has also shown a great ability to diagnose plays and shed blocks. AJ has been slower with those in the past. Also Cherry has been surprising people by showing out in 7 on 7 tournaments with better than expected coverage skills.
Obviously it's yet to be determined if he can translate all those skills to the SEC, but I have a feeling he's going to do great things in the middle of our defense.
Y'all making this so complicated, wow. Play him on running downs, and go to a 4-2-5 on passing downs. Or just substitute a suitable replacement given the situation. Cecil is a headhunter LB type we need for the Derrick Henry's, and Todd Gurley's of college football.
