'15 JUCO RB Alvin Kamara (UT commit 6/21/14)

I can't think of a bigger need in his class than what Kamara fills. Maybe one of the QBs or OTs, but those positions really don't rotate.

With those two Tennessee needs to run the power I. The Vier like GT runs would be very effective with Dobbs,Hurd and Kamara.

Actually now that I think about it the QB signees may prove to be more valuable if Dobbs gets injured for obvious reasons seeing as there WAS no body behind him.

Hurd and Kamaro are each SEC worthy but Dobbs has no equal right now and that scares me with he way he runs. That should change though with the addition of these backs. Kelly looks pretty stout too.

Jalen Hurd runs like Marcus Allen. Look at his USC films on Youtube and you'll see a lot of similarities. The backfield of Hurd and Kamara could be like the backfield of Marcus Allen and Charles White.

It's been another summer of extremely productive work in the weight room for a number of Vols. Alvin Kamara continues to not only wow with his speed but his strength --- especially lower-body strength. We're told Kamara recently closed out the first half of summer's program with so many squats of 525 to 545 pounds that he just sort of casually looked at strength coach Dave Lawson as if to say, '"How many you want me to do? I can keep going." according to some eye-witnesses. Fellow backfield running mate Jalen Hurd has gotten faster and stronger while also adding lean muscle --- he's weighing approximately 242 pounds.

Kamara will probably break more tackles than we thought. I can see him juking guys, but he is a lot stronger
Than I thought.
Hurd will continue to break more tackles and his average per carry will go up a good bit I bet. So exciting to have a physical RB with speed and an elusivenRB with speed, strength agility. Both should have great years

My biggest concern at RB is both Hurd and Kamara seem to be brittle and easily injured. We don't have a lot behind them.

Both are complete running backs and will be awesome this year. I hope we can rely on them to carry the rock 5-6 times in a row to get a couple first downs late in games. That will let us know how good these two can be. We haven't had that type of reliability in a running back for a long long time let alone maybe two. It's gonna be exciting this year boys

According to Hurd's mom Jalen was at like 217-220 last season so that makes 20lbs of bulk in the off season. Impressive...

Hopefully he will not lose any lateral quickness. That's one of the concerns when a guy adds that much bulk... or flexibility. The latter was huge for Hurd last year and helps prevent injuries.

You word this in the present tense, as in, how things are now. Yet you seem to have missed the main point of the few posts just before yours, that both are bigger and stronger than they were a few months ago.

So, upon what are you basing your opinion that they now are brittle and easily injured, at this present time?

Hurd was "brittle" as a true Fr while having 190 of UT's 334 carries by a RB.

He, like Worley, took a battering in the first part of the season. The OL couldn't block opposing DL's and Worley didn't pose enough of a threat to open things up. The result was that Hurd took more hits from the front 7. Later in the season with Dobbs and OL improvements, he got to the 2nd level clean more often.

I agree bb.Hurd is a tough sob.He could have played in that Chattanooga game but the coaches held him out.

The pounding he took early on was worse than I've seen from any RB here. They were teeing off on him with Worley. I'm really ready to see him a full season with Dobbs running the offense. A mobile QB is a must in this offense. Worley was just unleashing the backside DE to terrorize him from the back. Watch how he gashes teams with the Dobbs hype. Mizzou game he had started to do damage because they were determined not to get killed by Dobbs. Hurd was really punishing them.

No rb or qb in the country could have survived uninjured with our OL
