I'm not certain all 13 EE's were able to be back counted. It's too long ago though, bourbon has washed all the number discussions from last year out of my head.

So looking at the previous class we signed 17 non EE.

7 back counts from this last class would have taken the 13 down to 6 meaning we had 2 extra so something doesnt add up.

Ah screw it I will leave it to Butch to figure it all out ;)

I choose to comment on things I want to comment on. Just like you chose to comment on my post. I like the freedom this board allows. Pointing out that I choose to respond to a post that may contain something to do with the class #'s is not going to get me to stop doing it. Sorry. It is what it is.

I do agree CBJ is doing a great job for the most part.

This would all be so much easier without the stupid 25 a year rule. The only rule should be "you can't have more than 85 scholarship players." Simple as that.

Exactly. Makes absolutely no sense. I'd add to it "those you sign have to be given scholarships."

What bureaucratic moron said "Houston Nutt is signing 55 players and they're not getting scholarships, that's not fair to them. I know, instead of making a rule requiring signees to be given scholarships, we'll just limit number of signees."?

Swaffords scholarship will not be an initial counter so it counts against the 85 but not the 25 for the 2015 class.

I'm all for the guaranteed 4 year scholarship. Coaches be a little more selective about who they take IMO. Of course in the DJ Jones situation, it would not really come into play. :p

I like the 1 year, it ensures people continue to work for their spot.

I do think that injury waivers should be awarded for kids hurt playing sports. They should be a full ride scholarship until they graduate without it counting against the 85.

With UT filling every possible spot they had last year signing 32, I don't think they can back count anything this year.

IMO kids would still have to work for their spot. All the scholarship does is guarantee them a scholarship for 4 years. If a kid is not working, he sits. If he is content sitting, I'd just remove him from the team. He will get his education, he just would not suit up in Orange, Ever.

Yes you lose the scholarship, but that is where coaches needing to be more selective comes in. They can't afford to miss as often.

You also have to remember if UT is having those issues, other schools would be as well.

Think about if all of Kiffin and Dooley's recruits had 4 year scholarships. It would delay our return to greatest another 4 or 5 years. CBJ would be greatly handcuffed about who he could recruit, and there would be not be 32 recruits coming into help out this year.

These kids have to make one of the biggest decision of theirs lives while they are in high school. They should be happy with where they are, the one year scholarship gives them that opportunity. If we hand over a 4 year scholarship, they are not going to be released as easily for sure.

I do think transferring should be easier however (no one year sit out).

All schools would go through tough times if all schools played by the same rules. I just think the term commitment which is used so much in recruiting means about zilch. I'd like to see it mean something. maybe kids need to be a bit more selective just as the coaches do. If CBJ took the UT job and was stuck with Dools recruits, well he took the job and he knows where he stands. As kids scholarships come open, he would fill the spots he has. No over signing, no shady dealings, it's an even playing field for everyone. Also, the only transfers I would allow are if the kid is quitting football in which then his scholarship does become open right away, but he can NOT go to another school to play ball. Make the idea of commitment and signing a LOI mean something.

so a kid comes in,goes on campus,terrorizing the entire place,dealing drugs,stealing laptops,etc...
you are stuck with him for 4 years... there will be no kicking him off anymore,you signed him to a 4 yr scholarship,it will be like Tom Osbourne and Barry Switzer are the head coaches at every college in America...

Of course there would be some sort of guidelines for bigger situations where a kid could be stripped of his scholarship. (arrests, drugs, or whatever). Dropping a kid because he is not All SEC to make room for a kid who MIGHT someday be? No.

Exactly. Academic scholarships are usually 4 years. However, there are stringent grade policies and if a GPA falls below that you lose it. Also, usually there is a clause for conduct unbecoming of a student with a scholarship privilege. If they are dealing drugs, robbing people, etc., they would most likely lose their scholarship.

I would like to see 4 year guaranteed scholarships with a clause for injured players. Although Saban would find a way to take advantage of it.
