'15 JuCo DT David "DJ" Jones

33 catches 575 yds, 17 ypc, 4 tds ..... I think he's a playmaker that we'll have to plan for, especially since Thompson throws a nice deep ball.

Take away the game against us and he's an average player. He was nowhere to be found against any decent team. He's not bad, but he's certainly not worth worrying about.

Need need need need

Part of me wants us to land this kid for the immediate impact help. Jones and McKenzie would be an outstanding pair of DTs for 2015. Then part of me says just take 2 HS DTs so they have longer to develop. The kid only has 5 CB predictions, but all 5 say usce.

Hope you're right. Guess we'll see.

Or take 2 HS DTs and this guy. Problem solved.:hi:

It's not always that easy. There has to be a spot for them, if you plan to take them. After the quotes came out after the Sterling Johnson ordeal played out, IMO the staff plans to only take 2 DTs. McKenzie, and "one more".

I know some are going to flame me for this thought, but was just thinking a little bit about the comment Butch made to Sterling Johnson that we only have one spot remaining at DT for this class, and he wanted a competition at camp to find the best prospect to fill that spot. Does anyone think that McKenzie, Settle, or Jones would need to compete for that spot? I don't think so. If not, then it makes me think that possibly all 3 have locked down their spot in this class, and we are taking 4 DTs. Yes, LV, I'm postulating that those 3 are silents. :) Food for thought this beautiful Sunday morning.

They've got one returning playmaker in Davis. They may be good, but I don't see where all this confidence is coming from.

We've got one returning play maker as well, but we sure feel pretty good about what we are putting on the field compared to last year.

South Carolina has been winning the last few years, and their recruiting, while not outstanding, has been consistent. That consistency has allowed very few losses, and the Eastern Division is weak again this year. USC and UGA are the favorites. Franklin is gone, Muschamp is in the death throes, Mizzou lost a ton, and we are not ready to Rise to the Top, though we are making our way.

I talk shop with some guys who are really into their Cocks, and they think Dylan Thompson is more talented than Connor Shaw. Mike Davis is an animal. Their wideouts, while not being household names, are good enough to get some work done while Davis carries the load. USC's defense has been quite good for a few years now. That is not going to change overnight.

Clowney did not have much production last year, though teams had to plan around him, so the loss is not catastrophic. I don't know how people can think this is not a really good team. :dunno:

The good news is, compared to '14, the Cocks were better last year, the Vols were worse, and yet UT won the game. No reason UT can't win again this year.

That is a nice thought. I really don't think any of the 3 are silents. It does look like we are sitting in a great spot for McKenzie and Settle. Not really sure about Jones. I do think CBJ would find a way to fit all three in. Those three would be very destructive to other teams o-lines. That's definitely what we need! Oh and I don't think any of the 3 would have to camp to earn a spot.

I took it to mean 1 more high school dt, as in Mckenzie is a silent and there are a bunch of backups if settle doesn't commit. Dj jones spot is seperate from them unless he goes to uscjr

Thompson may be more talented, but Shaw had guts and knew how to get it done. See Mizzou game for example.

I think they lost a lot on defense that will be hard to replace. They will be good, but I can't see them winning 11 again. We'll see.

This season come down to the game in the trenches. 5 to 7 wins will all be determined by the lines.

What if they can get the right 4 or the right 5? Maybe the perfect 6? :eek:lol:

6 elite DTs? I would be fine with it. Make room for them. DTs go along way to fixing defensive woes. Why not have great DT depth like LSU does? I really cannot see any negatives in that. How do we know our DT haul in 2013 will all pan out?

Thats not how you want to build depth though. You dont want to take 6 each year. That would make 24 DTs in 4 years. If you take 2-3 each year, youll be just fine. Thats 8-12.

I agree with not taking that many every year. I was just saying theoretically if we could get 6 elite DTs then you take a chance with them as a building block for depth purposes. Now by elite I mean top 10-15 guys which is obviously impossible.

It would be great to have LSU DT like depth. We would have that if the coaches recruited the right kids and then developed the talent. You could get that type of depth and NOT have to sign 20 guys on the DL in 2 years. IMO it would be a huge mistake to follow up last years 9 DL commits class with another 7-8 DL guys this year. Then you lose a bunch of those guys all at once and your doing it all again. Same people screaming we should take all the DL/OL guys with more than 3 *'s by their name will be calling for coaches to be fired when we don't have the depth at other positions because of the "just take them all" mindset.

I know your obsessed with the numbers, but do you really think there is any way that we wouldn't take one of McKenzie, Settle or DJ Jones if they all wanted to come here? I can't see Butch making that mistake, and I would be livid if we found out that they did turn one of those guys down.
