'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Going hard in camp vs in season practice is different. I believe Butch actually tones it down physically in season. Most of the days are walk throughs and game prep to keep legs fresh for games

I'm not that down on Foreman. After watching again he actually made some plays and was right there on the ones that he seemed to get burned on with no help from the safety. The QB really made some exceptional throws. I'm actually more down on Moseley and Abernathy. Abernathy looks the part though, just needs to work on some technique. However, Moseley just flat out got beat a couple of times. Hopefully, that will be his worst game of the year.

He underestimated that white German speed 😜

Dieter is no joke. I think he used his size and strength very well against Moseley. The good news for Moseley is most of OK's receivers are smaller. :)

That gives me hope right there. He can shadow a slant route very good, but if they get their hands on him, he's toast.

Moseley looked like he didnt know what was going on and didnt belong on the field after he got burned you could see fear in him, he looked so small against there receivers and played like he was scared.

I think Moseley will be alright. He seemed to play tight and nervous. He had the benefit last year of coming in mid way through the season after Williams and AJ got in trouble. Little to no film on him at that point. But your assessment is definitely fair. I honestly don't think we have a true nickel on the roster right now. I think Abernathy is better suited on the outside. I think berry would be a great nickel until he can learn the finer points of safety. Jmo

Hopefully Martin will get up to speed quickly. The quicker the better for us.Need somebody to step up and play opposite Sutton. Berry should be playing nickel also imo.Mosley needs another year.

I think you guys are burying Moseley a little too quickly. He did get beat badly on one TD throw. And on another long completion when the QB made a perfect pass right into the receivers hand. But other than that he was solid. I think he'll be fine. He's extremely talented. I'm not worried in the least about him.

Appreciate your input. Would help over-the-top not of mattered?

He didn't make it a hard catch is what bothered me. How's a safety supposed to help you if you're getting killed within 2 yards. TKjr had to literally sit on top of him. That nonsense if you're supposedly a sub 4.4 guy.

My biggest gripe is with him not competing well. That bothers me.

Agree, and understand. I played d line, but as I understand in press, you jam and swivel, act as if there is no help.

If you having trouble actually jamming a dude put a hand on him and run with him. Be an athlete when the ball comes and make a play. You've got to make adjustments. Especially if you're confident in athletic ability.

Yeah, that was my biggest issue with him Saturday. He kept on trying to do the same thing-- albeit very sloppily--and it was terrible form for a jam as well as getting his hips turned afterwards. He should have just started covering the guy stride for stride so that he could have at least tried to influence the catch.

I think adjustments like this are where it hurt a little not having Martinez last week. Surely he would have seen that EM wasn't getting in done at the LOS and would have tried to get him to shadow and use his speed to close the gap when the ball came out. IMO I think EM was surprised that BG actually had a potent offense and got caught slacking multiple times, but he seemed to limit mistakes as the game went on.

Any ideas on why the coaches didn't back him off a few yards since he was gettin pwned?

1. The coaches felt we could out score BG. Mosely wasn't going to get beat for 60 points.

2. We switched to matchup zone for most of the 2nd half after we were able to make adjustments.

3. We will open up the defensive playbook a lot more against OU
