And they way over-reacted with Kentucky (#9) in exactly the same way they over-reacted with Florida (now #18) the week prior. They'll never learn. :)

I personally think they penalized Pitt (#23) too harshly. If we're #15, and the game was that close, they could've left Pitt at #17.

Other than that, and continuing to over-rate Utah (#14), I like this poll. I think it's the first semi-accurate one of the 2022 season.

When you lose at home to a lower ranked team…….you have to move down…….some at least.

I’m with you on Utah, also think BYU is too high, as is KY.

I know KY went to Florida and beat them…..but dang from 20 to 9……wow…….and really most of that based off of Utah.

It's funny how the SEC East seems to be benefiting from the poll voters over-rating Utah pre-season. The good juju passed from Utah to Florida, and now to Kentucky. When we beat both Florida and Kentucky, it will pass to us.

I bet all those Pac-12 journalists didn't expect they'd be helping us by propping up Utah! lol

You see impossible triangles every year. They only defy logic for folks who don't understand the fuzzy nature of a college football team. It's not a known quantity. It's a blob of potential that ebbs and flows to reach or fall from that upper limit, week to week.

Poll voters recognize that. Which is how they 'solve' impossible triangles and sometimes, sometimes, vote team A ahead of B even if B beat A earlier in the season.

[I happen to agree with you that Kentucky is, on average, a better football team than Florida, which probably is, on average, a bit better than Utah. That doesn't mean any one of them couldn't beat the other two on any given weekend.]

I could maybe see that if it happened 6 weeks ago. But we are talking an 8 day span. Voters get invested in two things, pet picks and they don't want to move them, and they strive for conference equality in the face of logic. That's why we see highly rated USC, Oregon, and Utah teams to start the season but we know the Pac 12 is probably the very bottom of the barrel as a football conference among the P5.

They”could” be, however I seriously don’t see KY beating Mississippi, SC, Miss ST, Tennessee and even a suck Missouri team all in a row.

If they do they very well might be a top 5 team at that point…….just don’t see it happening.

Certainly before A&M……but then UNC should be ranked.

Voters watch a few games, vote on scores, what they “think” and quite possibly what they like…….it’s highly flawed…..at least this early.

UNC played a one score game with ANOTHER Sun Belt team yesterday. I have no problem with them not being ranked.

“I” (just me personally) couldn’t have app state ranked at 1-1 with their 1 loss to UNC and UNC at 2-0 without UNC being ranked.

Maybe. But from this point on, it's more about teams in front of us losing while we hold serve and continue to win. More than any bump we'll get from Florida or LSU specifically.

For instance, this coming weekend, there are three potential upsets for teams above us:
-- #11 Michigan State could lose to unranked Washington
-- #12 BYU has to go to #25 Oregon's house
-- #13 Miami goes on the road against a pissed-off #24 A&M

Each of those three upsets, if they happen, would almost automatically bump us up one spot, assuming we handle Akron in the dominating fashion we should.

And I would imagine at least one of the three will happen.

So we are likely to be somewhere between #12 and #14 when we face Florida. Who will themselves benefit in the same way, assuming they beat USF this coming Saturday.

Florida could also benefit from #16 NC State's game against Texas Tech, should the Red Raiders pull an upset. So Florida could be ranked between #14 and #17 when they come to Knoxville.

#12 Tennessee vs #15 Florida would be nice.

All that before we face either FL or LSU. All from "beating Akron." Which just proves the point...it's not about beating Akron, it's about winning (against whoever) while those ahead of us lose.
