UT finished runner-up to Michigan the first time. And UT didn't push all that hard with Cherry committed. I think he's ours to lose.

Someone said he mentioned doing it at the all star game closer to NSD. I'm hoping he does something after this weekends UT visit.

I believe that game is January 4th. Could be wrong on that though.

Yeah this one is really trending our way. I think Kirkland wants to be a Vol and the only thing stopping him was Cherry.

I'm following very casually. Everyone ranted and raved about Cherry for the last 12+ months. Suddenly, he's chopped liver.

Anyway, Charlie Strong KNOWS defense and if he wants Cherry then Cherry can play.

Most on here aren't saying the kid won't be a good MLB. Cherry just doesn't want to be here and it's looking like Kirkland does. Kirkland has potential to be a great MLB as well. He is rated higher than Cherry (not that it means anything)

Dont see anyone saying hes chopped liver. If we didnt have Kirkland lined up and looking like hes going to replace him then yes everyone would be fired up. In this case it looks like we will make out better which is a good thing.

A lot of that depends on how high he was on their board. It certainly seems like they just recently started pursuing him after missing out of several others at that spot. If they are down to a plan C or D at his spot I don't know how much Strong pursuing him really means as far as how good he is.

Very true and if we didn't want Cherry then we wouldn't have held his commitment for 17 months. Our staff asked him not to take the Texas visit and he did it any way. We got burned with DT Devonte Lambert around this time last year and the staff isn't taking any chances on that happening again and has moved on to another option.

I like where we are with Kirkland. The key IMO is what he does coming out of his UT visit. He cancels his upcoming OVs to USC & TX and you can BOOM all you want IMO. He takes those trips and several schools are very much in play including Ole Miss.

I don't know what Kirkland does but it is clear that he initiated the contact with our staff after de-committing from Michigan. No recruit does that if he isn't seriously interested.

Because if i said anything about how I preferred Kirkland over Cherry about 5 months ago, I would've been blasted because since Cherry is committed to UT he is the best MLB in the country and NO other player can come close to his talent level... This happens so many times in other threads up until a player is thinking about flipping...

It won't matter come December. Kirkland will not take that visit to Texas then, because he will have already found his new team by that time.
