Oh yes!! That sounds like a good sign. Back so soon and staying overnight. I'm liking this. I think the kid is pretty good and he has a ranking the star gazers would like. Of course I'm probably bias towards the NapTown boys. Lol.

Awesome. If this keeps up we're going to end up with some quality defenses over the next several years. Especially linebackers.

It seems like this is a dude we should talk about more. Making lots of trips down, could be commit before we know it.

It would be a great pickup. One of the top players in the region. Top player in Indiana. I really hope we can get this one .

Long shot, but any relation to Levon Kirkland, of Steelers fame? Loved that guy growing up! What a beast 300lbs LB and got the job done.

Judging by this pic, I don't know if he's 6'2.. Doesn't bother me tho.. Hope we get this kid.

The real UT and Penitentiary St are in the exact same spot at the top for Darrin.

Ranked by the 247Sports Composite Ratings as the nation's No. 6 inside linebacker, this trip was about seeing how he fits in with the Vols program.
"Everything went great down at Tennessee," Kirkland said. "Spent a lot of great time with their early enrollees and their outside linebacker signee Dillon Bates."
Kirkland liked the feel of everything and plans to return soon.
"Just a really good look at what their college life is like, from there practice to there dorm life," he said. "I really like it all around!"
Kirkland heads to Ole Miss for an overnight visit on Monday. He will also check out Kentucky sometime next.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't see the need for us taking 2 MLBs this cycle, but I'm also not the coach.

Being in a kids top 2 right now while great, does not mean the coaches would actually take him right now. Kind of like the Amadi situation. He had UT near the top and when he realized they were about to start slow playing him, UT was no longer a consideration. Tennessee may be in Kirklands top 2 but if they are not in a position to take 2 MLBs right now, we could slide down his list pretty quickly. TJ Rahming at WR is another one that could play out the same way.

Sorry LV but I disagree. This kid is a physical beast and a take all day long. Amadi is very small and while he is very fast, you can only be so physical at his size. Butch's message all spring has been about being a more physical football team. Kirkland fits that mantra, Amadi does not.

@TomVH: ESPN Jr 300 LB Darrin Kirkland Jr (Indianapolis) will be committing at his school on May 30. He will have a top 8 later this week

So he is either a take right now and committing to UT May 30 or he is not a take. Either situation tells me Tennessee is in a good position. Boom!

As I said it comes down to how many the coaches can take at any given position. If 6 4-5* DTs want to commit to UT does that mean the staff takes them? Of course not. With Cherry already in the fold, it comes down to would the coaches take another MLB knowing if they do, they very likely end up short somewhere else.

I would love to see Kirkland end up a Vol. I think the kid will be a very good college football player. Just not sure I'd take him now and lose out on say Edoga, Richmond, Philips, or others needed at other positions.
