'15 GA WR Preston Williams (UT Signee 2/4/15)

"Goldkamp just spoke with Tennessee 5-star WR commit Preston Williams following his UF visit. Williams really enjoyed his time on Gainesville and says he is very open right now. More coming shortly."

Fwiw, I've never read a quote from a recruit where he said he had a bad time on a visit. They either had a "pretty good" time or a "great" time and will always say they enjoyed the visit. All we have to go on is what we have heard from him and that is that Tennessee feels like home and he is still committed (Tennessee leads). These recrutiniks have ways of wrangling the quote they know their readership wants to see from a prospect.

I have read stories where a recruit did not enjoy a visit. I am pretty sure we have had kids commit to UT while on a visit to another school or within minutes of a visit. Kids are slow played, and at times ignored on a visit if they are not the "top dog" who all the coaches are trying to woo.

With that said, I think this kid will be all over the place commitment wise till NSD. He seems to like the spotlight and is very much a flip possibility IMO. As I said earlier, why pay to travel 300+ miles to Gainesville when I could travel 240 and be in Knoxville? OV is one thing. All paid for and a perk for top level kids in recruiting. UOV is out of the kids/families pocket and if they are spending the cash, you can bet they are still considering the market.

Preston spoke pretty negatively about Clemson. Fwiw

Born and raised in the south, like, earlier today? I've seen 'crootin on this board a thousand times.

Or you could, ya know, sound it out and make a reasonable judgement given the context of the posts being made here.

Im pretty sure if most of us visited UF as a football recruit we'd all have good things to say too. Top flight facilities, red carpet treatment, time with coaches, and UF girls? You would have to be a pessimistic person to not enjoy the trip.

That said, its ALWAYS a threat when a commit takes a visit. However, I'll keep my faith in Butch to keep Williams in the fold. He sure did a good job keeping Hendrix, Barnett, and Sutton in the fold when they took late visits.

Williams contends he is still committed to the Vols, but followed that with, "I'm open." As he continues to make campus visits, Williams believe many will be similar.

Stampini trying to stir the pot a little, no doubt. Stuff like this can be taken out of context easily. Who knows if he meant that he's open, as in a soft commitment, or he's just open to visit other schools and see what they have to offer. He said the Florida visit "killed" Clemson. I did find that funny.

I'm still not too worried. We are just going to have to deal with the fact that this is one of the best players in the nation, and you have to recruit him hard until he signs a dotted line.

Yup, the spotlight can change things in a second when it comes to recruiting. I just wish these kids would call it like it is though. Don't swear your 100% VFL and then continue shopping yourself around to any school that holds the door open for you. I know if I were a recruit and Preston is talking up UT to me then 2 days later is talking up uf, not sure I would count on playing my college ball along side him. Having top level commitments is great to help build a great class. Of course those top level commitments have to LOOK committed to help do that.

JMO, but it's not like this kid is out there saying anything negative about UT. He's committed, and he has raved about UT. He didn't compare the Clemson visit to UT, and he didn't compare the UF visit to UT.

Top-level recruits are going to take their visits. I have no problem with commitments taking visits. Does it suck for us fans? Sure, but that's just the game of recruiting. I'm just enjoying the fact that UT is back to recruiting at this level, and I hope everyone else can enjoy it, too.

Last, "shopping yourself around" is a bit harsh. Schools are contacting him, and he's deciding if he wants to visit. Look at it this way - he's visited UF and Clemson, two very good recruiting schools, and he's still committed to us. I hope he visits Bama, UGA, Auburn, and LSU so we can get them out of the way, too.

Some reporters say, "Are you open to listening to other schools?" then the recruit says, "I'm open." Reporter tweets "Preston Williams says he's open."

Not saying that happened here, but never put too much stock in someone who gets paid by how many people get riled up.

That said, elite recruits will always visit.

I'm a UT fan. I tell myself any kid who commits to our Vols must be a UT fan as well or at least WANTS to be one. As a UT fan could I see myself driving 650 miles to go see uf on my dime? No, I could not. Could I see my family wanting me to spend their money to go see a school I don't plan to attend as I'm already committed? I doubt it. OV's are another animal as it's a freebie and a lot more understandable to me. Just my take on it.

Guys might as well get used to this being a roller coaster through jan. people don't just let the #1 WR go easily

Definitely but I feel comfortable with Florida being No. 2 (no pun intended)...Muschamp on the hot seat with a first year OC. If we could just finally beat them....

IIRC his stop in G'ville was the front end of a 7 on 7 event(could be wrong). Im sure UF gave PW a world class sales pitch but imo yall worried about nothing.

"Preston, we're glad to have you here. Our talented new QB's brother is really famous on the Internet, so we have that going for us. Also, we've fixed that whole thing where we block each other on offense. I think."
